That gays and straights have about the same number of sexual partners overall? Wow, what a surprise.. that Canada and the west coast is more bi-curious than USA and the east coast respectively? That up to a third of people have had or thought of having a homosexual experience? Interesting! That is reported in this okcupid study...

LOL meanwhile the radical Christian right insists that gay people typically have 100-1000 partners in their lifetime.

I think the scary part is 5-10% of the people believe the earth is larger than the sun.

I would have to say I think that 1 out of 3 men are definitely gay. How do I know this? When I go to the gym... Gay guys almost always divert their eyes when I catch them looking but 'straight' guys most usually plain-out stare. LOL

It's 2012. Come out, come out, wherever you are! Haha.

It is interesting to look at the difference between gay men and gay women. I did not realize that so many lesbians were into drugs. 40% more lesbians than straight women.

Into sports for gay men is funny!

    It relies on accurate self-analysis.

Even bypassing the fact that it's an OKCupid website, we should all realize it's nonsense.

Well I read the survey. It was fun regardless of its validity.

This is information from a dating website. Gay or straight, how many are accurately reporting his or her number of sexual partners on a dating site? Few people want to be viewed as a slut.

Yes it is... I've got a neglected account there. Just checked it and some cute blonde boy from North Carolina says I could be a writer, based on my reading my profile. icon_biggrin.gificon_cool.gificon_idea.gif

The OK Cupid blog has so many fascinating trends and insights into people and their views based on what 'groups' they belong to.

Lol fewer than 20 sex partners? I think I went through that my first year of being sexually active...and no, I'm not abnormal according to my therapist and group therapy experiences...All the gay men in the room looked at me like "so what, big deal, so do we."

I would have found the results on promiscuity more interesting if they accounted for the actual number of partners straight people and gay people have on average. I could say 100% of gay and straight people have less than 1,000,000 sex partners in their lives. But that doesn't really mean much. Likewise, if the average gay person has 19 partners and the average straight person has 3, there is still a huge difference in rates of promiscuity.

Gay men fuck around a lot more than straight men on average. I think the focus should be on recognizing the fact that the hyper sexuality within our subculture can not be disconnected from the discrimination and intense shaming gay men endure from society at large. But ignoring the pathologies? That's just willful ignorance.

I lived on the east coast for about a year and I got the hell out as fast as I could. Dude, I'm surprised that you are surprised that there are homophobic issues in that part of the U.S. I am a little surprised about the info. on the number of people who have had thoughts about gay sex who aren't gay. hmmmm.

At least Judy Garland (Judy who?) doesn't appear on the list of things gay men like. That stereotype is long dead.

This article is all over the place much like their other blog on race & dating. They are both written in a tone that defends one side or makes one group out to be the bad guy. There is a clear bias and even a distrust that if the reader were presented the facts, he/she would be able to draw the same conclusions. The data is also selectively presented. Most legitimate studies show the sample size/# of respondents by category, for example.
