The NH Gazette compiled a list of public war advocates, but who never served themselves. They have over 150 profiles and even ranked them according to their level of ChickenHawkness.

Scroll down for the names. The usual suspects are there, along with less apparent ones: John "The Duke" Wayne, Frank Sinatra, Anton "Fat Tony" Scalia, Clarance Thomas, Mitt Romney, and the president of the anti-gay American Family Association.

Thank you for posting this !! Its very revealing!

As you may realize, I've done a whole lot of reading on the people, the groups they belonged to, the citizenship issues of those who pushed for war in Iraq and I recognize a whole lot of names from the pro war Neo Con group the "Project for the New American Century" (PNAC), many of whom were taken into the Bush Administration making up 41 dual nationals out of 54 in his war administration.

This PNAC group was disbanded in desgrace after no WMD's were found in Iraq, which was a mainstay behind their push for war. These people like William Krystal went on to form other groups and are now pushing for war with IRAN.

Nearly every damn one of them fit the chicken hawk definition, and to think they are in such influential places to affect public discourse and opinion. Take Wolf Blitzer, a dual national Ex CEO of the Israeli Lobby AIPAC, what in hell do we need someone like this influencing the entire nations view on going to war with Iran after the windbag promoted the Iraq war under false pretences.

These people should be exposed and often, with 'frienemies' like these, who the hell needs enemies. I have to wonder where exactly are their loyalties.

This information on Israeli Lobby AIPAC-- and its associated --- Think tanks --- from wikipedia.

The foreign disbanded 'Project for the New American Century (PNAC) is not on this list, but most of the "CHICKEN HAWKS" list are to be found as members among these Lobby think tanks.

All of these Think Tank groups are 'PRO WAR'S" that benefit Israel --- PROVE ME WRONG !!!! FACTS ARE VERY STUBORN !!!

Mearsheimer and Walt state that “pro-Israel figures have established a commanding presence at the American Enterprise Institute, the Center for Security Policy, the Foreign Policy Research Institute, the Heritage Foundation, the Hudson Institute, the Institute for Foreign Policy Analysis, and the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs. These think tanks are all decidedly pro-Israel and include few, if any, critics of US support for the Jewish state.”[48]

In 2002, the Brookings Institution founded the Saban Center for Middle East Policy, named after Haim Saban, an Israeli-American media proprietor, who donated $13 million toward its establishment.[49] Saban has stated of himself, “I’m a one issue guy, and my issue is Israel”,[50] and was described by the New York Times as a “tireless cheerleader for Israel.”[50] The Centre is directed by AIPAC’s former deputy director of research, Martin Indyk.

Frontline, an Indian current affairs magazine, asked rhetorically why the administration of George W Bush that seemed "so eager to please [Bush's] Gulf allies, particularly the Saudis, go out of its way to take the side of Ariel Sharon's Israel? Two public policy organizations give us a sense of an answer: the Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP) and the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA)."[51] Frontline reported that "WINEP tended to toe the line of whatever party came to power in Israel" while "JINSA was the U.S. offshoot of the right-wing Likud Party."[51] According to Frontline, JINSA had close ties to the administration of George W Bush in that it "draws from the most conservative hawks in the U.S. establishment for its board of directors"[51] including Vice-President Richard Cheney, and Bush administration appointees John Bolton, Douglas Feith, Paul Wolfowitz, Lewis Libby, Zalmay Khalilzad, Richard Armitage and Elliott Abrams. Jason Vest, writing in the The Nation,[52] alleges that both the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs and the Center for Security Policy thinktanks are "underwritten by far-right American Zionists" and that they both "effectively hold there is no difference between US and Israeli national security interests, and that the only way to assure continued safety and prosperity for both countries is through hegemony in the Middle East – a hegemony achieved with the traditional cold war recipe of feints, force, clientism and covert action."

freedomisntfree saidAmazing, not one democrat on the list, not even Bill Clinton, but I notice at least one Repub who did serve regardless of what Dan Rather said.

If your referring to Dubya, his service amounted to a piss poor stint for his 'resume', then he got into trouble and there was a coverup by big daddy. All accomplished by daddies money and his Ex CIA good ole' boy network, kinda like the one Daddy Bush put together that paid the Iranians to keep our Embasy workers until after He and Reagan could get elected.

LOOK IT UP OLD GEEZER !!! as I said, we don't need anymore of the Bush Crime Family in Washington.

I think the list is fair. Anybody can look at the facts and choose to support a war or not. Republicans who never served but voted for the war are not on the list, yet Lieberman is. The difference is when these "tough talking" public figures...

    1. Agitate to start a war, especially a controversial one.
    2. Publicly ridicule anybody who opposes the war.
    3. Never served themselves.
    4. Or worse, went to great lengths NOT to serve.

    ...they graduate into Chickenhawk status.

Clinton was mentioned, yet is not on the list because neither Clintons ever mocked or ridiculed war opponents, nor did they agitate for wars.

The spirit of this list targets those "tough talking" war agitators and their apologists. There is a big difference between Rush Limbaugh, who was part of the war propaganda machine and ridiculed anybody who opposed the war, and Senator Clinton who voted for the war, but likely as a victim of that extensive propaganda campaign.

John "The Duke" Wayne is another good example. This real "tough talker" called Vietnam protestors yellow bellies and made the pro war Green Berets...yet he avoided serving in WWII.
