This is the first direct flight between Boston and Asia and JL's first long-haul passenger B787 flight. The previous Asia-bound flight, operated by Korean Air, stopped in EWR on its way to and from GMP/ICN. In addition, JAL is scheduled to launch flights between NRT-HEL and NRT-SAN towards the end of 2012 and into 2013, as well as potential flights between NRT-MAD/BER/DUS, each of which are major facilities for oneWorld-affiliated airlines IB (Iberia) and AB (Air Berlin).
