So i was reading this book Myths, Lies, And Downright Stupidity by John Stossel when i came upon one "myth" that caught my attention. (The book talks about certain myths that may or may not be true) It talked about how many people believe that if they stop working out their muscles will turn into fat, which according to him is not true. He says "muscle is muscle, fat is fat" The two have no connections whatsoever. The article goes on to say that even if you stop working out your muscles will just become soft and nonfunctional, but it's never going to become fat. "The body's fat cells and muscle cells are structurally different and you can't turn one into another" said fitness expert Donna Richardson Joyner.

I thought this was really interesting. Maybe you guys already knew? I didn't. So hey, I learned something new today! haha

Absolutely correct! One has nothing to do with the other. You can put on more muscle and stay fat if you don't watch what you eat and do cardio. You can stay thin if you don't exercise as long as you are very strict about what you eat or if you have a naturally high metabolism. If you do neither, then you'll become a big lump who can't take two steps without weezing and sweating like a pig. That's just natures way.

Stossel is correct, but a bit of an angry drama queen. He just says things hundreds of people have said before, only louder and with more venom. He styles himself as an original thinker, but he really just comes across as an asshole with an ugly 'stache and a persecution complex. That isn't to say you can't learn a thing or two from his rants. Good information is good information. I just prefer mine packaged a little less obnoxiously. Or at least less obnoxiously than I package myself.

Obvious #2: ...What can happen is that when you stop working out you keep eating the same, but you arent burning as many calorie so you will put on fat.

You can't "strip away fat" either.

Or "Turn fat into muscle".

And "Get a beach body in 10 days" is also a tall order.

Yep I knew this, muscles will atrophy but will not be converted to fat (thank heavens for that). Never heard of this guy though to be honest.

It's an interesting factoid seeing that he speaks so well on camera, one wouldn't expect that.

Now, go ahead and untwist your panties a bit.

Biologically Impossible. There is not a direct metabolic pathway for that to occur. Nor can you literally turn fat into muscle. Turning fat into muscle is meant figuratively, same thing with sweat turns to muscle. The sweat obviously does not turn to muscle but if you sweat enough you probably will drop fat and some muscle will show.

I'm always amused by these guys that put on thirty pounds of fat so they can start lifting then and turn all that fat into muscle. Not going to happen, instead you will eventually have the joy of a 16 to 20 weeks of cutting and dieting.
