STORIES on the SKIN

What's the story behind the tattoos on your skin? One of my favorite stories from our "Stories on the Skin" project is from a student whose dad was a chiropractor. He died rather unexpectedly, and her response was to have a tattoo done on her spine, which is where her dad would lay his hands to treat her.

Share your stories, share your tattoo pix, and please also consider pledging to our Kickstarter campaign, designed to help us raise the last of the funds necessary to finish our tattoo documentary:

The stories are fascinating, the film is going to be excellent, although it's astonishing how much resistance we've met. Even today, people have preconceived notions about people with tattoos. Challenging those ideas, though, is a big part of the reason behind our project. The main reason, though, is because we all have stories to tell. Help us out, spread the word... and now, tell your story.

    Thanks.

Not one person has a story to tell about his tattoo?

I do, but it's very personal so very few people get to hear the story.

Do you ever get to hear what others think your story is? Even that would be interesting: The stories our skin tells are not necessarily what we intended.

Oh yeah but they're never even close to the real story!

Most people have already heard me say - but I got my tattoo as a reward to myself for hitting the 100 pound weight loss back in November.

    (I am down123 now).

I chose to get a puzzle piece design because I have always struggled with feeling like I fit in anywhere. Yet, I am in a place in my life where I do feel like I finally know where I belong - like the pieces are falling into place.

That's my story. It's not profound or anything, but meaningful to me.

I don't think the stories need to be profound... but, like in your case, onaquest: they are stories that are important enough to you that you want to get them down. And you choose to get them down on your self, which is part of the intrigue here. You didn't just walk into a tattoo studio and choose something randomly; what you chose to put on you has meaning.

These are the stories the Stories on the Skin project is interested in. Keep 'em coming guys. And the project is 37% funded as of today. We only have 7 days to go to reach 100%. Please help us spread the word and pledge if you can:

Well, this thread didn't result in much as far as your tattoo stories go, but for those who were curious, the Kickstarter campaign made its goal two days ago. The campaign has another 19 hours to go, though!

I don't have a tattoo, however I've been thinking of getting one on my foot. I'm quite fond of the gypsy / fortune teller images. I don't have a story to go along with it though... icon_redface.gif

I don't know, Tomcat, maybe you do have a story. I think it's interesting you're considering this imagery for your foot. Maybe there's a story there you haven't thought about yet.

I don't have the tattoo yet, but here it is... going on my shoulder.

    IMG_1118.jpg

The image is an Eastern European aquila so a slight nod to my heritage. A two-headed eagle represents two kingdoms: the kingdom of God and the kingdom of mankind. This tension I think plays out in my life, and in everyone's life to one degree or another, and it's instructive that God and mankind are always looking in opposite directions.

The shield is going to have a stylized mongraph representing the initials of my sister, my brother, and I.

Larkin, you definitely have a story. Good luck with yours!
