I have a very personal reason for hating country (and I don't use the word 'hate' lightly). It's the only music I've ever listened to that makes me want to drink copious amounts of beer and run my truck into a tree on purpose (which I almost did, but missed the tree).
Edit for PS.
This is still mostly hypothesis, but the hypothesis is shared by many and studies are being done:http://scienceblogs.com/cortex/2007/12/country_music_and_suicide.php
I wouldn't mistake nor blame music for problems and depression that is happening in my own mind. Some country music does express hurt and sadness in some songs, but no more than any other types of music. And the way that the person interprets the songs is nothing but their own fault. I can listen to a sad song and completely relate to it, but I don't get more depressed by listening to such songs because I am happy with my life and who I am. Depression is the cause of wanting to drink and think about suicide, not music.
