This is something I've wanted to visit for a couple years (since I found out about it) and now the weather is finally warm enough for me to start traveling the state.

May go there tomorrow morning if someone wants to go with me.

PS. The earlier the better, because I also want to drop by Flagstaff Pulliam Airport, rent a plane and fly over the crater for aerial pictures. Whoever tags along is welcome to tag along in the plane, too. icon_biggrin.gif

I'd go with you if I wasn't 2000 miles away....used to teach geology field school, we'd visit Meteor Crater & many other sites of interest in that part of the world. Sunset Crater, also near Flagstaff is a very young (geologically speaking) volcanic structure you might also want to check out. Have fun!

It's really breathtaking in person. It's very humbling to stand at the rim of this thing and realize what happened here. I found it overwhelming. Definitely recommend going.

I love that sort of thing. Be advised, it's a longer drive from Flagstaff than most people expect it to be, and admission does not come cheap.
    Have fun!

    You know it's outside, right?

It's not climate controlled AT ALL.

Temperature, wind speed, and sunlight are all subject to random changes.

    Have a lovely time!

I live and work in those conditions, and love it. Being indoors is boring (unless you're having sex or posterbating on RJ).

Are there any good places to hang out up there? I feel adventurous and may get a hotel for the night. Then it'll just be a few minutes drive to the crater tomorrow.

Monte Vista is a haunted hotel downtown and there is a mom and pop bed and breakfast downtown as well.

I live in Flagstaff so if you want any advice just message!

Googled it...beautiful! But I'll save that for another trip when I'm looking to splurge. Doing this on a shoestring budget cause I'm saving for something else.

Yeah we have plenty restaurants here. Great place for hiking and cool weather. Iam spending a night at my brother house up here. Believe me you will like Flagstaff better than Casa Grande.
Now that I look at the temps to see just how much cooler, uhh, that's like bone chilling cold at night. Maybe I'll put off this trip for another month to let it warm up there. icon_lol.gif

Rent a copy of the movie Starman (1984) with Jeff Bridges. The climatic scene takes place in Meteor Crater.

I visited there when I was 12 ... was on a cross country trip with my family.

Cool place but I'm so old I'm surprised it's still there. icon_lol.gif

I won't miss it. The climate is a total turnoff for me. But it does have some super interesting attractions for road trips. icon_biggrin.gif

Indeed! Ghost towns are kind of fun and creepy at the same time. There was one in California I visited ... Bodie ... which had a lot of weird energy. But a fun day in the high desert nonetheless.

I was raised in a ghost town. They're only fun till you're old enough to realize it's a ghost town. icon_lol.gif
