Hey, so my friend will most likely be transferring to the University of Texas (Austin) for soccer and if he does a few of us are going to visit him for a week or so because he'll have to stay part of the summer to train.

I've been to Dallas but never been to Austin so are there any places/things, could be anything, in or near Austin that we should check out or do?

All you'll find in Austin are greedy hippies, partly due to their money driven obsession for their longhorn network !

And the nearby Riverwalk. I always loved a late afternoon Sunday lunch there this time of year, the tourists would have faded away, the weather not too blazingly hot yet.

You must make the trip out to Hamilton Pool. I've been to Austin once and based off of that one time its my favorite city in the US so far, hamiltons pool was my favorite part of that trip.

Any specific places at the Riverwalk you'd suggest for food? And preferably on the less expensive side since we're a group of poor college kids hah

Texas is amazing! However, the Longhorns will always be a nasty stain on the state. It's really too bad that that institution doesn't dry up and close down.

    Gig'Em Houston!

The riverwalk and alamo are in san antonio (bout 1 1/2 hrs away). Austin is known for 6th street, hippie hollow, oasis restaurant on lake travis, mt bonell, Congress bridge bats, Barton Springs pool, Zilker Park. Have fun!

An old friend of mine from Arkansas goes to Hippie Hollow at least once a year...sometimes two or three times.
