Figure: Percent of same-sex couples who are interracial or interethnic

LOS ANGELES – Newly released Census 2010 data, analyzed by the UCLA School of Law’s Williams Institute, highlight unique aspects of racial and ethnic diversity within same-sex couples. They are more likely than their different-sex counterparts to be interracial or interethnic, and couples that include a racial or ethnic minority are more likely to be raising children. Fully a third of same-sex couples that include an Hispanic partner are raising children.

“This is our first 2010 glimpse of the racial and ethnic compositions of U.S. households headed by couples, including same-sex couples,” said Gary Gates, Williams Distinguished Scholar at UCLA School of Law’s Williams Institute. “The new Census data help provide a fuller picture of the diversity within the LGBT community,” said Gates

The US Census Bureau recently released the research brief Households and Families: 2010, which includes data on the racial and ethnic compositions of households headed by couples in the United States, including same-sex couples.

The light blue states probably have the majority of interracial same-sex couples, but they're all closeted and on the DL.

No surprise that Alabama and Mississippi are two of the lowest states with a population of gay Interracial couples. It's probably the same for Heterosexual Couples.

This is an interesting data point when you consider the near constant array of "The Gay Community is Racist" threads that pop up around here.

Just checking in to see if the race war has developed yet. No? Guess I'm too early. I'll check back later.

Well it tracks with what I see around here in our "gay ghetto" as our detractors like to call it. Interracial couples are quite common. More than any straight couples I see.

This proves it! Gay men are racist! It's just that they're racist against their own race! You should all be ashamed!

not really too surprising, considering that the states shaded the darkest blue also have significant Hispanic populations, and there generally isn't too much animosity directed towards Hispanics (at least in gay circles).

This! Latinos are the Blonde bombshells of the gay world so you can't conclude that this data= no racism.

I didn't want to say it, but now that it is out there, those states with some of the lowest rates of interracial marriage also seems to be some the states where African Americans are the largest minority. Those states in the south like Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee and those states in the north like Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania are all states where interracial marriage is low and African Americans are the largest minority group, so there still is some racial division.
