Wow...I have not Googled my name in a few years. The last time I did, there was almost nothing under my name....now I do it and there are just pages and pages...everything form petitions that I have signed, property taxes I have paid, Political contributions I made years ago, the address where I live. I would prefer not to have that stuff online. I guess it does not really matter. I'm not really trying to hide anything...but gesh... Seriously, the LA Times has a page just for the contribution I made to fighting prop 8. That is ridiculous.

Have you Googled your name recently?

    http://www.google.com

And I'm doing my search with my first and last name together:

    First+Last

    Example John+Doe

Give it time. Eventually google will know when you masturbate, secretly take video from your laptop's built-in camera, and broadcast the video to the world.

I check from time to time. One person with my name is in prison for life in Colorado. To make it even worse, he is the same age as me. I hope no one I've lost track of since college or high school is doing a search and assumes that it is me as my name is not very common.

Some guy with my name was one of the actors in Lord Of The Rings. Searching my name brings up his IMDB page. icon_lol.gif

Blame the entities that make this info public to begin with. When I ran a 10k last month, the race promoters published everyone's full name, age, and city ontheir website. I was kinda pissed. Also all cities publish home owner information on their websites too. Just plug in an address and you can get the owner's name.

Not my name but adult images I've posted have made their way around tumblr and blogs. Fortunately as an independent business owner and visual artist it ends up not mattering.

There is some guy with my name who makes music, so that shows up a lot. Then a whole lot of misspelling of my name too.

I'm in the same situation - I come up first with my direct work phone number and email. Some woman rang up comPlaining the other day and told me where I grew up and studied (thanks Facebook & LinkedIn which have both been deleted now).

Tropicalmark - you really have me intrigued now!

I don't use my real last name on fb. I don't know why everyone does not do that. It is easy to change. icon_smile.gif

There is no one else with my name. But Google came up with more than 3 million results. I was thinking about seeing if I could erase some of them but that is just crazy.

There was only 1 photo and I just changed it on Change.org so it does not show up.

Places...a couple business stuff that I don't care about.

    Education - once...for a donation made for a project.

    Discussions...stuff back from 1997

    The rest came up blank.

I remember when my mum warned me to never use my full name in the internet...Lol.

But seriously, I considered making a legit profile on here with pics/info and all that jazz...but I am hesitant now because I don't really like the possibility of my pictures showing up in google images...nor the things I talk about on hereicon_redface.gif

    No big deal

My FB comes up, but that's the intention and all my professional stuff is no longer up to date. There are a few guys with the same name, so things get more confusing for anybody trying to stalk me.

My name isn't that common so when I google it, just facebook and a few other minor things. I try to keep as much things off the internet as possible, like information about me, because once it's there it can never come off. I don't want freaks having total access to me.

I have nothing to hide. My Facebook is completely private. Even then, I have nothing alarming or sketchy on there other than some strange humor. I untagged myself from a lot of questionable photos (especially from college parties), so I look like a good boy on Facebook icon_twisted.gif

My name comes up in a few clippings from my hometown's local newspaper (my high school used to publish names of students who made the honor roll) and a testimonial I did for my study abroad program in Russia.

    That's all I've found lately.

Most of my stuff when I actually looked just now was facebook posts (somehow the one I made on the Charlie's Angels 2011 TV Show's wall) and some electoral stuff. Just as long as my address and other personal information doesn't get online I'm OK I guess.

I don't have a Facebook account or most of those other things for this reason. My name is common anyway. Searching for it brings up people all over the place.

It's a brave new electronic world out there. I do not ever do anything other that business stuff that gets me on the Google.

All these people looking for jobs with pictures of themselves throwing up and links to blogs bragging about fucking, wonder how that will work out.

Nothing but a couple of property records for anonymously living me.

But I've a good friend who likes to think he flies under the radar, seriously won't even get himself a sunpass for highway tolls. Yet the other week I wanted to show some other friends how to get to him from me on mapquest, didn't have his address offhand so just googled him and found over 100 entries. So much for flying under the radar.

Out of curiosity I just googled some others. An old friend has over 400 from her job as professor. Another old friend at an international mag has over 500 entries.

My last best bud who was an actor comes up with over 80,000 entries.

One of my favorite cousins, a fairly well known publisher comes up with over 40,000 entries.

An oscar winning cousin comes up with over 50,000 entries just for his company's name.

An emmy winning cousin comes up with more than 180,000 entries.

My most famous uncle comes up with over 11 million entries, not bad especially considering he died long before I was born. The internet has a very long memory.

My brother told me about his eldest kid having too much on the web and I just googled him too. I'm fucking stunned by what I found there. This kid has totally fucked himself. What an idiot.

PS I just looked again at my nephew's online crap and at how some of his pages show him with 100s of friends. I know this kid. he hardly has a friend in this world. Sad, just sad.

    PPS. Just googled some more.

Dalai Lama 67 million, is being a famous buddhist an oxymoron?
    Tenzin Gyatso 955,000 results
    Michael Jackson + songs = 119 million
    Lady Gaga 405 million results
    President Obama 709 million results
    Abraham Lincoln 43 million
    Jesus Christ 124 million
    God 388 million
    Money 2 billion 710 million

Oh, this is kind of scary. I don't want the whole world to know my address and phone number. I'm a senior citizen, so I don't do much with a computer other than send/receive e-mail and surf the Internet. Someone convinced me to join Facebook, and now I'm wondering if that was such a good idea. I usually don't join any online groups except for a couple of them like Realjock. I can see that there are privacy concerns that I was not aware of when I started using a computer in my 70s.
