I have been doing no cardio at all. Just weight lifting and eating as much as possible to gain weight. Although I lost a couple pounds because I was recently prescribed aderall, I'm back to 175. Now, I was wondering weather or not I should add cardio to my workout? Will it make me lean and show more muscle definition or will it work against me causing a loss of muscle mass? Any advice?

If you want a ripped slender physique then cardio is where it's at, but for adding muscle mass you need a surplus of calories and cardio burns a ton of calories. So I'd say doing some cardio is good ok, gets your blood pumping, but you don't need to do more than say 20 or 30 minutes. Even 15 would be ok. Just focus on eating right and strength training.

You will read a lot of articles saying you can do both "Men's Fitness" is notorious for these articles. And it makes sense that you should be able to do both, but in reality it's almost impossible. You pretty much have to choose if you want to be in a bulking phase or a cutting phase.

I have the same dilemma. I'm a runner so it's hard to maintain muscle mass. However, I discovered that if you do a 15-minute HIIT interval, let say using a treadmill, after a weights workout you can still get the benefit of cardio while minimizing muscle loss. However, I typically drink a protein shake pre-workout on those days.

I run and I lift. You have to experiment and find the right balance that works for your body.

Good advice guys, thanks. I think I'll do cardio once a week (swim or run) while still bulking for lean gains. Then when I hit my goal weight, cut down.

.... cardio is important for blood vessels and the heart... to bring oxygen and nutrients to your muscles.... so .... need to do some cardio everyday... even 15 min/day will bring much circulatory benefits... and no loss to muscle mass.
