Just got back from the Movie

    I thought it was great!
Meryl Streep can absolutely do no wrong
It was fun silly... over the top
but completely enjoyable from start to finish

I saw it in a completely packed theater
and me and my friends had to sit way up front
the whole theater was singing along with the movie
If you see it wait til, the credits before you get up
there's a special treat at the end

I was like :O when i found out she was 70, i hope i age as well as she does.
Also, the musical was better imo. I just saw it now and the comedy aspect of it went right over the heads of the greeeks in the cinema lol. They were still puzzled by it after the movie had finished.
    And Sky? mmmrhm

    Pierce Brosnan cannot sing.

Not in the "I am a hot Straight Dad and I can't sing" kind of way...

More like a "I sound like the monster in Young Frankenstein" kind of way.

When I saw it the audience was laughing at him....

    I give the movie a 7 out of 10.

Refuse to see this pile of crap, just as I refused to see Sex in the City.

If that means I have to hand back my gay member card, so be it.

I saw it and enjoyed it. But it isn't a masterpiece, so you have to go expecting it to be a nice fun movie, but nothing special.

Meryl Streep was excellent in it though.

I just saw it this past weekeend. Maryle Streep was great, but Pierce was horrid.
I saw in on Broadway also, It was not as good as the bday performence, but overall was good for a musical.icon_biggrin.gif

Let's all say it together: "You know you're gay when everyone else is going to see Batman on opening night and you're going to see Mama Mia!"

Count me in... although I do want to see Batman too.

Mama Mia really takes the best parts of the play and makes them into an even better movie. Streep is awesome and pulls so much emotion into her performance, especially "Winner Takes It All." I looked over several times and my partner was in tears, I was close.

Agreed... Brosnan should never... I repeat... NEVER sing!

I'd sooner stab myself in the ears with an ice pick than listen to any Abba song.

Though I do understand I'm missing out on some great eye candy...

I saw both the production and the movie, and I agree with the criticisms about Brosnan's singing. I was worried they would remove the gay thing altogether, since they removed some of the earlier references from the show, but they at least had a few tidbits in the end.

I saw it with my Mom and she has a crush on Colin Firth, which made it that much more vindicating. ;)

I'm probably going to get crucified for saying this, but I really didn't care for the movie. I haven't seen the musical, but was really looking forward to seeing the movie. Lord knows I loves me some Meryl Streep...and singing??? AWESOME! Couldn't wait!

For some reason, I never connected with the movie. I thought the acting was so completely over the top, which, I'm sure, was due to the first-time feature director, Phyllidia Lloyd, who directed the musical. Those big theatrical gestures are just too overwhelming on the big screen. I could almost hear her now, 'use more arms, more arms!!!' I think the cinematographer should have been shot. Those people couldn't have looked worse, and some of the shots were even out of focus. During "The Winner Takes It All," he seemed to focus more on the incredible vista and didn't give a shit that Meryl Streep, who was giving an incredible performance, was mostly in shadow. I was also waiting for an explanation as to why Christine Baranski was wearing that horrible wig. I couldn't get passed it! Funny enough, I thought the performance over the end credits was the best and most fun part of the movie. It looked like the cast was having a blast.

At any rate, this is just one man's opinion. I'm glad a lot of other people liked it. It's great to go to the movies and just escape for a couple of hours.

Some friends are dragging me to see this. Not sure if I'm going to like it. I dig Meryl though so thats a plus. Gives me a vibe of Muriels Wedding for some reason and I sorta liked that although I was confused how the chick from Brothers and Sisters became paralized but I digress LOL.
