I'm due for an upgrade at the end of the month. so i've rounded the phones that i want down to options, the iPhone 4s or Xperia S.

    Which would you guys suggest?

the sony beats the iphone in specs, but i have found the iphone software much easier to use in comparison to android, plus the iphone will retain a higher resale value if i decide to get rid of it.

The other thing that i have kept in mind is that apple will release the iphone 5 later this year, and i'm guessing there will be some kind of issue with it since apple tends to have problems with the first release of a new product.

i will admit that i have always been a sony fan, i've had a sony ericsson for the last 6 years.

another factor to consider is that both contracts are roughly the same pricing, and with the same benefits. the 4s is slightly more by R30 (+-US$4) so i'm not really phased by it.

    here are the links:

I've had blackberry, droid and iPhone and I like iPhone the best.
One thing I would definitely look into is reviews on battery life.

As for softwares, Apple is definitely better and easier to use.

As for system, Apple is more efficient than Android. Like my friend said,"No matter how fast the CPU is, Android is still a little slower if many apps are installed." -----Yes, cuz android is a Virtual Machine written by Java (which is inefficient compared to C and C#, which are adopted by Apple and Windows) running on a linux OS. Android demands more resources of phone than IOS (CPU & RAM).

But I'm affraid Iphone is really everywhere. Just take a glimpse on the people waiting for sub in China. Nearly all of them do the same thing-- holding Iphone in their hands and do the same gestures. Sometimes I think it really horrible that many people do the same thing. ----Well, I might strayed...LOL

Soicon_confused.gif, what about Windows Phone? I'm using it and find it really as efficient as Iphone. But there are definitely more choices than Apple. It wil be particularly better and convenient if you use Windows, Hotmail ( hot male ??? LOL), Skydrive,etc.. Well it's only a suggestion. icon_smile.gif

If you value efficiency, you'd better go with the big flow and use Iphone (or Windows Phone?). If you value multimedia, u can try Sony because the big SCREEN is really cool (watch out for low battery)!

Battery life is definitely a big consideration and still an area where huge improvements can be made. I would be interested to see how the Sony compares to the Apple in this regard (as that's the biggest problem I have with my 4s).

Just bought the Xperia S to replace a windows phone (htc Mozart) and I love it so far. I'm probably a bit biased as I'm not a fan of IOS, got an iPod touch for work and don't really like using it, but it is reliable and very good at what it does.

I haven't noticed any lagging on the xperia so far, it's all smooth and the apps are quick. The battery is like any other smartphone, I normally put it on charge every night, sometimes get a couple of days out of it if I'm not constantly browsing and taking pictures.

The screen and the camera on the Sony are what sold it for me in the end, plus I love being able to customise it how I like without rooting or jailbreaking.

What phone do you have at the moment?

i can't stand windows mobile so that's out of the question.
Most smart phone batteries only last 1 day these days so not really too phased about that.
Currently i'm using the sony ericsson vivaz. Useless thing but its got a great camera and i got it when symbian was still the big thing lol

I just got the 4s and love it. first iphone after many android phones and I am very happy with my choice. If you turn off location services and bluetooth when you not using them it makes the battery life way better. I take mine off the charger in the morning around 7 and with moderate use throughout the day it needs charged again by about 10pm. Everyone bitches about battery life across the board with all phones. But as they get more powerfull and have dual core chips they will continue to pull more and more power.
    .
anyhow. id get the iphone. reguardless of the hardware specs the iphone in my opinion will out perform the sony.

Well I'm using HTC Mozart now(to post this), and pretty content with it, if this guy thinks Xperia 's better than Mozart, then it's good for u to have a try on Sony, because Sony's really good at style and multimedia And Android's customizable, though I still think android not that efficiency lol..

Plus Windows Phone 7 is BY NO MEANS Windows Mobile. It's much better, you can have a look on those WP7 phones.

jocks_and_socks saidi can't stand windows mobile so that's out of the question.

Windows Phone 7 is not Windows Mobile. Two completely different OSes....although they are both based on the Windows CE kernel. Apples and Oranges as far as how they are implemented.

I'd go with the phone that best suites your needs. I see a phone as primarily a communication device (phone, messaging, social networking, etc), and less than a PC (gaming, entertainment, etc.). So for me the iPhone worked, and then when I gave it a chance, Windows Phone 7 (Nokia Lumia 900) suited my needs very nicely. Even better than the iPhone 4 as far as a communication device is concerned (integrated social networking, great call quality, LTE, etc).

However, if think of it as a PC, and want to treat it like a PC, then the Xperia S might suite you better, as you have greater flexibility in treating it as such (direct access to the file system, customizations, etc.) It depends what you want to do with it.

I'm on my third iPhone (my husband has my last 4, while I'm using a 4S), and using it with Macs the integration is stunning. And now we have an iPad, everything syncing though iCloud. If you're on Windows you may find something else better.

The world's bestest Phone has arrived

    http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9300_galaxy_s_iii-4238.php

    Samsung I9300 Galaxy S III

    Its beyond Apple & Sony
    with that Super AMOLED Screen
~306 ppi pixel density Screen capacity Pixel range
    Exynos 4212 Quad Chipset
    Quad-core Processor
    Mali-400MP GPU

It stands as the Worlds best Phone till date !
I am an IT guy so that's my suggestion
Apple is lacking with that LCD screen & low Pixel per density range!
Its not even Quad core (4 cores)

i'm in IT as well and i'm really not phased if it's quad core. more processors means less battery life. besides, it's coming out much later in the year. so that's out of the question

The Samsung Galaxy S III wont be in the market until 2 months from now. It also got pretty crappy reviews, considering how ugly this phone is and how cheap it looks in terms of materials used. Also the only thing that saw a decent upgrade was the processor, the screen is the same just slightly bigger, and the front camera is even worse. The consensus by those who love android handsets is the One X from HTC

    htc-one-x-630.jpg

Being that said, I would still recommend the OP to get an iPhone and if he can wait a bit longer I would go for the iphone 5 to be announced in October.

The thing is Sony Xperia S looks sooo handsome!! like my perfect boyfriend! would be ....if only it was AMOLED at least icon_rolleyes.gif

Back to your game iP4s v.s SX's I would certainly go with SX's

    sony-xperia-s-main_large_verge_medium_la

    Sony-Xperia-S-01.jpg

Trust me it looks way cooler then the i4$ sign! icon_rolleyes.gif...icon_biggrin.gif the transparent panel definitely sets the bar up high on the design note! ....I would have given it a RedDOT design award.

Its a 12 megapixels camera, and you can't go wrong with Sony on this!

Personally this is why I own an iPhone 4S. You do your own research and get the phone you can get the most out of:

    - 8MP camera
    - Dual Core Processor with Quad Core Graphics
    - Still the Highest PPI on a 3" screen no PenTile whatsoever
    - 64GB Storage
    - Reliable/consistent upgrades from Apple.
    - Minimal fragmentation
    - Best Voice Personal Asistance(Siri)
    - More secure platform
    - Minimum presence of malware
    - Better Software available and more developer support
    - More intuitive interface
    - Best resale value for a handset
    - More accessories
    - Echosystem(Compatibility with my iPad, Apple TV and iTunes integration)
    - The best available customer service by a tech company
    - Industrial design with materials such as aluminum and glass rather than the same boring plastic.
