When you think of Russia what comes to mind?

I go to school to learn all things Russian .... One of the first Russian things I learned was the national anthem, I learned to write it in Cyrillic and English and memorize the Lyrics. Through my research I found this breath taking composition and video of the Russian national anthem. Very well done I might add.

I'm really fascinated by Russia actually....Their history, their government, their architecture, etc.

I find oppressed peoples to be fascinating, which is why I love North korea. I know Russians are not nearly as oppressed as North koreans, but there was a time when they were under the "iron curtain" . etc...very interesting people, indeed

Well, I've been studying Russian since I was 17. This thread pretty much reminds me of my study abroad in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia in 2006.

A few pictures I took from that time:

With two penpals I had been chatting with for years that I finally met in person:

DirectTV has Russian packages. They lowered the price. The basic package now costs what the single Channel One used to cost.

LOL! Russia was not a fun place to be gay. Aside from Russian society being homophobic, the country has millions more women than men. It's no wonder so many Russian women marry foreigners (aside from those who are gold diggers or just want to move abroad). Also, most Russian guys I saw were not the loveliest creatures to my eyes.

Russian women are a different story, though. I have to admit there were times when I questioned my sexuality a bit icon_eek.gif
