One of my fave Madge videos is Bad Girl which wasn't a big hit for her.

Still, it has a great storyline, Christopher Walken and is directed brilliantly by David Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club). Gorgeous cinematography and she looks stunning.

There's so many to choose from. I'm kinda torn between these two:

As far as masters of the medium go, Michael and Madonna are the undisputed king and queen. It's too bad the heyday of the grand epic videos are over.

Ha. I forgot about her R&B era; she should work with Babyface again. My fav from that period:

Yeah her Bedtime Stories album was a cool sound for her and Babyface is a fucking genius.

Another great video from that period

^She's gotten a lot of criticism from hardcore fans for that though. Many thinking that she sold out by teaming up with the hottest R&B producers. I, myself, really enjoyed the album.

She wanted a more commercial sound I think after all the shit she got for the Sex book and Erotica album. Dallas Austin and Babyface came up with the goods for her though, I really like their contributions on that record + the Bjork/Nelly Hooper track Bedtime Story.

Reminds me of what GaGa would do today.

Always loved the Metropolis homage in the "Express Yourself" video.

Touche', great song/vid. And a third, same era (song is better than the video, though):

Totally. I think this video is in a museum or something. Mark Romanek is a genius.

Seeing all of this brilliant production (and there are still so many of her videos not showcased) makes me sad for what the medium is today. Especially from Madonna who set the benchmark on so many levels, along with MJ.

For me it would be an earlier song, 'Like a Virgin', or maybe 'Like a Prayer'.

The money just isn't there anymore unfortunately BUT there are still some great music video directors working today like Jonas Akerlund.

Speaking of which the original American Life video is another fave. Wish she'd had the balls to release it.

I dunno. I think there are some really good videos out there. They're just not showcased the way videos usually were, because 1) the market is both saturated and fragmented, so there's a ton of music but it's (mostly) niche music and 2) no TV station plays music videos anymore. The era of the MTV artist with near-universal appeal is effectively over, isn't it? And its not the artists' fault either.

I actually PREFER the censored version, I think it's more focused. Sometimes simplicity works.

I get what you mean but you can tell it was a rush job because of the 'one shot' that was used so I'll politely disagree with you sir icon_wink.gif

    Personal significance? Do tell.

"Frozen" is a great song, as well as a lovely video.
