    What happened to Toronto?

It seems like a guy like him would have gotten elected 60 years ago, but not now.

Declining an invitation to a pride event - even though you sign off on it and have a deputy attend in your stead - is now "openly homophobic"...

Let's all have a little perspective guys.

He didn't attend Pride last year either, and has continuously declined any gay pride event he has been invited to. As the comments on the article say, he's not a mayor for Toronto, he's a mayor for himself. I wouldn't want him there anyway - he would only go to get the homos to shut up and leave him alone. He clearly doesn't want any part of it.

And I'm convinced that he is in the closet.

Apparently that's just the last in a long string of deliberate slights to the community. You really should be more informed before you comment like that.

I should do extensive research on any subject before I respond to a single article?

No thanks. If the article doesn't make me appropriately informed to comment, then the article is flawed.

Cut the Waist update: Mayor Rob Ford just weighed in at 314 pounds, up four pounds from last week’s weigh-in.

^ Just posted on Twitter by CP24 (news centre in Toronto). Guess he's too busy stuffing his face. Makes sense!

JPtheBITCH saidAccording to that article in the Globe & Mail, he also hosted a radio programme where one of the guests made some vile homophobic remarks which were met by his...........complete silence.

In politics, this is a cheap shot.

Do I think John Edwards, John Kerry, Ron Paul or Joe Biden support 9/11 conspiracy theories? No of course not. But they've all had this "moment of silence" when some wacko asks them about it.

Yeesh SB, I've only just got out of bed 20 minutes ago. It's 7am here.

Now then, Conservative mayor won't attend Pride. What would you like me to say about that?

Now then, having done with SB, Ford's refusal could be from this debacle:
QuAIA - Queers Against Israeli Apartheid.

This group was included in the parade after Pride organizers agreed they would not be when accepting City funding for Pride a year or so ago.

This of course to anyone aware of the Antics of the Ford brothers is yet another of their homophobic not to mention Idiotic actions in Toronto.
@ Larkin i'm so sorry for not giving you a full account of the History of the Fords here before creating my post.

How did this homophobic idiot get elected as mayor of Torontoicon_question.gif This is unbelievable of all cities to elect a hate monger as mayor. His only interest is to try to steal either the Buffalo Bills or the New Orleans Saints and bring them to Toronto which is a horrible idea.

Sorry, what's the evidence that he's homophobic?

    http://www.thestar.com/news/pride/article/1014248--why-won-t-rob-ford-go-to-gay-events

Gay activist and Jane’s Walk executive director Jane Farrow said Ford was a “a lovely guest” at her May 4 launch, happily posing for a photo with her and openly gay provincial cabinet minister Kathleen Wynne.

“It’s a very serious thing to accuse people of being homophobic, and I would not say that is how Rob Ford is acting, but he is being less than a really good mayor by avoiding the Pride parade.”

“Some (gay) people don’t want him there. I need him to be at my city’s Pride parade to show he’s the mayor for all the city’s people . . . It’s worth skipping some dock time. This is critical — be big, be brave.”

“Ford is probably frightened on some level of going to Church St.,” and doesn’t feel welcome, she said, adding he could march with Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke and other parents of gays and lesbians.

Mel Lastman was once in Ford’s shoes. The former mayor at first resisted going to Pride, afraid of news footage of leather and nudity and the prospect of being jeered, but relented in 1998.

    There's also this:
    http://www.insidetoronto.com/news/cityhall/article/812914--ford-says-he-s-educated-himself

    and http://www.thegridto.com/city/local-news/is-rob-ford-a-homophobe-the-question-is-irrelevant/

I should also point out that I happen to know for a fact Ford has at least a few openly gay men who work in his office and who worked in his campaign.

This. I knew he was a prick during the election, but this makes no political sense.

Let's all have a little perspective guys.

Exactly, there are plenty of homosexuals who do not attend pride, does that make them bigots too?

That being said, Rob Ford is a mass moron, no doubt, but perspective is insightful

And yet, it's true. You could probably find out pretty easily by either visiting his office or calling it.

No but they also are not the mayor representing the city of Toronto. Ford does attend most every other festivity.

Im agreeing on the fact that the fat blob is a moron, but this lack of attendance is seriously not a big deal. Do you REALLY want Rob Ford there?

Yes, at one pride event during the 10 days. I don't personally care about the parade
There are events held a few feet from his office in City Hall. All other Mayors have.
Anyhow, we know this will not happen during his term in office, i'm more concerned with ongoing build up of his actions.

Its not a bad thing, its only building up an arsenal of ammunition against him.
