In 1951, my grandparents went on a roadtrip they would never forget. They had been living in New York with their two children while my grandfather finished his residency in obstetrics. For the move back to Guatemala, they decided to buy a new Ford and just drive there.

My grandparents traveled around the world and visited every continent except Antartica, but this is the one trip they always said was their favorite. They collected postcards from some of the major cities they drove through--starting, of course, with New York. I scanned and posted them on facebook a couple of years ago. Not all of them have descriptions on the back, but I copied them for those which do:

I haven't really mirrored their route on my walk, but I have visited some of the same states and cities.

This is my dad and grandma, in Central Park in, I'm guessing 1950, or early '51.

Cooking, music, mechanics, over achieving, and always moving run in my family. My great-grandmother was from Spain, moved to Mexico. Her daughter, my maternal grandmother moved from that pueblo to Hermosillo, SON, then to Northern Sonora, where my mom was born. My mom and grandmother got their citizenship after meeting my Grandfather. Later I was born in Michigan, raised in AZ and have been hopping around this great country ever since finishing high school. I'd love to explore some wanderlust with you someday!icon_wink.gificon_twisted.gif

    Great picture!!!

I used to collect ticket stubs and guitar pics, gear, etc from bands I used to play with around the southwest of the US.

Started trying to collect vinyls now since I've inherent many of them from my parents!
