Is it true that on average gay guys are more educated? I'm a college graduate with a degree in Business and considering getting my MBA. My dad has an MBA and my mom has a Masters - can't let my parents outdo me!

What's your level of education?

1. Highschool drop out
2. Highschool diploma
3. Some college
4. Trade school/institution
5. Associates degree
6. Bachelors degree
7. Masters degree (MBA included)
8. Doctorate degree
9. MD

#5

An Associates degree in Computer Systems Design & Programming. Before this, I had already finished 3 years of BS Biology, but I dropped out of it (even though I was doing very well and I really like Biology) partly because I just couldn't see the job prospects and partly because of acute depression at that time.

I've still yet to see if I will regret that decision in my life. But so far, I'm not, I like computers as much as I like Biology.

Someday I may try and get a Bachelor's. In our culture especially, it's needed to get respect. Meh.

I'm smarter than most 4-year course graduates here anyway.

Intelligence does not correlate to the number of advanced degrees one has. Nor does your worth.

It's not a damper at all, as long as you're proud of you and what you've accomplished.

I was kind of thinking that when I first saw it. As someone else said, having an advanced education is not the measure of a man. I've seen some very overeducated idiots in my time.

I think that depends on where you go to school. I have a friend who's getting her PhD in biomedical sciences in a couple weeks after six years of arduous work in one of the country's leading cancer research labs. Her capabilities are far beyond average.

Caslon5000 requested I explain what Art Therapy is, so I will. It is form of psychotherapy where your client uses art as a tool of communicating how he or she feels to the therapist. So when I was in school I did my internship at Children's Hospital in Boston and I went to different wards and did art with patients as a tool of releasing stress and anxiety while in the hospital, which is what I wrote my thesis on.

Hope that helps explain what Art Therapy is.

I got my BA in Theatererformance, but I have more field time clocked in Technical Theater. Could have gone for a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts), but that meant 24 more hours of classes, and I was a semester away from graduating when the BFA program was put into effect.

Didn't want to because I already invested enough money and time, and BFA really should be done as a conservatory program, where each year you had to audition or be audited, and if you didn't meet the criteria, you don't advance to the next year of the program. Could have said a lot of lackluster performances over the years...

Well, I'm currently done with 7, and working on 8, though it'll be a few years before I'm finished on that one. Formal degrees I've gotten after high school have been

BS, Biochemistry,
BS, Psychobiology,
MS, Biology,

and currently ABD on my PhDs in Zoology (department) and Ecology, Evolution, and Behavioral Biology (interdepartmental program). If by some reason I don't manage to get my research to work and have to stop, it'll mean it's a second MS done, this time in Zoology. It's pretty common for those who have passed their qualification exams and finished all their course work to get what I call the MS by consolation prize if they have to leave their program. That's actually why I have an MS already--3 years into my first shot at a PhD, one of my two advisors left my university, and since I didn't fit in either lab without the other lab around, I left with an MS and started over at a new school.

As for the question about how easy it is to get graduate degrees in the US, that depends on in what, and where you go. There are many legitimate, accredited schools where an MS/MA isn't all that much more work than a BS/BA--a year or two full time, and sometimes you can get it straight from classes, without needing to do an independent research project. PhDs, on the other hand, are a lot of work, pretty much anywhere you go. Unless you're buying it from an unaccredited diploma mill, expect it to be at least 5 years of full-time work at 65 or so hours a week, year round.

Now comes the real challenge: getting job in your field of study. For whatever reason, I've observed about 10%-20% of the people I know have gotten a job in their respective field of study. The rest either tangential or removed to some x-th degree.

I'd have to say #3.

I'm currently In college.. but technically have earned an associates degree. I'm shooting for my Bachelors now, and will end up with a Masters degree before it's all said and done.

I like to think that I'm reasonably educated, and of slightly above average intelligence. What's helped me the most though, is I have an incredible ability to.. understand. The only way I can manage to explain it is that it's easy for me to take complex problems and relate them into simple, and easy to manipulate situations. It makes me really good at physics.

I'm a #3 and a #4.

I have some college and am currently a junior and DeVry majoring in hospitality management. So that makes me a #3 soon to be college graduate.

I'm also a #4. I have some trade school background. Don't laugh but after high school I went to cosmetology school and worked as a hair stylist for roughly 6 years. I then went to the Chicago School of Massage Therapy and went through their 600 hour course which took a year to complete.

Not sure if this counts but I received a certificate from Spain's Ministry of Science and Education for passing the 2nd level exam which is called "D.E.L.E." It stands for Diploma de Espanol como Lengua Extranjera. In English it stands for Diploma in Spanish as a foreign language. I passed the second level and want to eventually take the 3rd and final level. The final level is VERY difficult. Not sure if most others would agree with me but to pass the 3rd level, in my opinion, would be like speaking at a master's or PhD level in Spanish. It's a certificate that holds a lot of clout internationally and is highly respected - looks very good on a resume.

Education is great.

Is it true that on average gay guys are more educated? I'm a college graduate with a degree in Business and considering getting my MBA. My dad has an MBA and my mom has a Masters - can't let my parents outdo me!

What's your level of education?

1. Highschool drop out
2. Highschool diploma
3. Some college
4. Trade school/institution
5. Associates degree
6. Bachelors degree
7. Masters degree (MBA included)
8. Doctorate degree
9. MD

I would revise this list a bit--to remove the MBA bias, for instance .

1. Some high school
2. High school diploma
3. Trade school/institution
4. Some college
5. Associate's degree
6. Bachelor's degree
7. Master's degree
8. Professional degree (e.g., M.D., J.D., D.D.S, Pharm.D, etc.)
9. Doctorate degree (Gotta respect the Ph.D.!)

My education came from some college, majoring in English, several TV Production schools and on -going technical seminars and classes in the various new technologies and techniques of TV and Film Production but my best education came from apprenticing with an Emmy and Oscar award winning DP/cameraman for several years and then our long professional relationship working on eachother's projects over the years.

I'm #3. Working on a BS in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology with an emphasis in Biochemistry. (I hate when people ask me what my major is.) I'm currently applying to PhD programs in Biochemistry and/or Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Yeah, as my advisor used to say, Rhetoric Rocks!

It's a fun major and more useful than anyone really realises.

You can pick my brain any time you like. ;-)

Oh, I'll bite, what the hell....

High school diploma. Then instead of University, which I was accepted for, I decided I'd rather get paid than pay for education, so...

2 years of branch manager trainee at the big banks.
5 years of moving from bottom up to accounting manager at credit unions.

23 years at telecom moving from bottom, operator, then ascending through various divisions to national business customer care.

Night school over the years in cartooning, music and business journalism, and that I paid for.

There was/is a vast overlay of humanitarian work in tandem with the above.

....to all you guys answering with '1' or '2' only, I've done this to quantify what is often hidden in those humble numbers!

Associates in Sound Engineering.

Now, I'm working on my Bachelors for Entertainment-Business.
I'm thinking about getting a masters if things go well after graduation.

I started out as a Trumpet Performance Major, but decided that was not what I wanted to do, and so that lasted only a semester.

Wow - well, I'm only a #2 (High School) and that was by thinnest of margins (I don't do well in highly structured environments).

Started a business shortly after HS. While I feel I missed out on the social side of it and occasionally wish I at least had a BS, the fact is that I've been able to keep myself and my employees gainfully employed for 21 years now.

Still, it does bring up a small inferiority complex in me. All my friends have at least bachelors and some masters (or MBAs) and a few (including my ex) are pHds. So sometimes, I get kinda quiet when folks start talking about their college experience.
