My guess is that this vote in NC has forced Obama to come out in favor of "Gay Marriage" and FINALLY take a leadership position on this hot button issue. Enough "evolving", take a position and own it, Mr. President. Stay tuned...

Can he issue an executive order to reverse the state's decision in NC? That would be pretty epic icon_lol.gif

They just said he is giving an interview to ABC only, and then ABC will air some of it. Seems that if it were any sort of major announcement, he would call a press conference rather than just give an interview to ABC.

    http://www.towleroad.com/2012/05/president-obama-endorses-gay-marriage-in-abc-news-interview.html

"I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married."

It's great, but honestly I think this may cause problems in the election.

Just looking at this with a Marxist slant, are there any clear economic gains that would warrant such a position?

I doubt that winning the gay popularity vote would win him a second term, as the Bible-belt holds most of the voting power.

I wonder if he had done this even a few days ago IF it would have made any difference in the North Carolina vote?

Romney Affirms Opposition to Same-Sex Marriage:

Romney was asked about the failure of a ballot measure that would have allowed same-sex civil unions in Colorado. "I indicated my view, which is I do not favor marriage between people of the same gender, and I do not favor civil unions if they are identical to marriage other than by name," Romney said. "My view is the domestic partnership benefits, hospital visitation rights, and the like are appropriate but that the others are not."

It would have, but not enough to defeat it.

southbeach1500 saidGreat - but it's a shame that he didn't evolve just a bit quicker so that he and his party could have repealed DOMA and legalized gay marriage on the Federal level back in 2009-2010 when they had super-majorities in their caucuses in both the House and the Senate.

So, looking at this in a practical manner, it's too little too late.

Better late than never don't ya think?

Absolutely. Can we please just agree on this and be happy? Wishful thinking, perhaps.

Would have been closer, doubt the outcome would have been different.

Beyond the obvious for GLBT people, makes you wonder if tactically this is a way of trying to close up the wedge between gays and African Americans in the Democratic Party ... and exposing the Republican Party line on this a bit?
