Definitely go see the monkey chant/dance ritual, where men are shirtless and tranced out.

No I haven't been personally; however, I worked with a guy who has, been there many times, in fact he was on his way there again after the last conversation I had with him, and he very strongly encouraged me to make sure I go there before I die. And he knew my particular persuasion, lol. He said I would have a great time. But that could've been bull too, of course i don't know.

Be sure to head over to the Komodo islands to see the legendary Komodo dragons. When I was there you could do an amazing boat trip from the island of Lombok to Flores... taking in Komodo. It was a four day trip on a converted fishing boat; sleeping on the deck under the stars by night and dropping anchor on remote beaches by day to enjoy the most spectacular snorkelling. Barefoot luxury at it's best!

Agreed everyone from Perth goes to Bali for the weekend, there are loads of Aussies there and generally they are drunk and loud.
Yes stay away from Kuta, its embarrassing how the Aussies there carry on. Imagine 100's of TBA's icon_rolleyes.gif

Indonesia is amongst the worlds most amazing countries.

Culturally, it has one of the oldest societies in existence. The hospitality of Indonesians is world renowned. And the food is great.

In 2005 after the devastating tsunami, my military unit assisted in the setup and operation of mobile hospitals and food/water distribution sites. That was the first time I was there. Went back in 2009 on holiday for some much needed rest and relaxation in a seaside hut in Bali.

Definitely will return in the future.

Visited Lake Toba in Sumatra years ago. It was a stunning place that felt removed from the outside world.
