UPDATE 5/17/2012 Sean Hannity has the recording of the 3 hour interview with Rev Wright and will do into it during his next few programs.

An ally of then-Senator Barack Obama offered Rev. Jeremiah Wright $150,000 to keep his mouth shut until after the 2008 election, according to excerpts released today from the upcoming book “The Amateur” by Edward Klein.

Wright, Obama’s former Chicago pastor, had become a significant political liability in the 2008 presidential campaign because of his anti-American rhetoric. Just months before the election, networks were poring over months of Wright’s sermons, which suggested that the United States deserved the Sept. 11 terror attacks. Wright has also encouraged blacks to sing “God Damn America” instead of “God Bless America.”

“After the media went ballistic on me, I received an e-mail offering me money not to preach at all until the November presidential election,” Wright told Klein, according to the New York Post, which obtained the excerpts.

That’s when Obama himself got involved, Wright said, and made a personal plea to keep Wright out of the spotlight.

“Barack said he wanted to meet me in secret, in a secure place. And I said, ‘You’re used to coming to my home, you’ve been here countless times, so what’s wrong with coming to my home?’ So we met in the living room of the parsonage of Trinity United Church of Christ, at South Pleasant Avenue right off 95th Street, just Barack and me. I don’t know if he had a wire on him. His security was outside somewhere.”

Wright added that Obama seemed more concern about his political circumstances than Wright’s personal well-being.

“And one of the first things Barack said was, ‘I really wish you wouldn’t do any more public speaking until after the November election.’ He knew I had some speaking engagements lined up, and he said, ‘I wish you wouldn’t speak. It’s gonna hurt the campaign if you do that.’ … I said, ‘I don’t see it that way. And anyway, how am I supposed to support my family?’ And he said, ‘Well, I wish you wouldn’t speak in public. The press is gonna eat you alive.’”

According to Wright, he also received a short lecture from Obama on the necessity of sometimes stretching the truth.

“Barack said, ‘I’m sorry you don’t see it the way I do. Do you know what your problem is?’ And I said, ‘No, what’s my problem?’ And he said, ‘You have to tell the truth.’ I said, ‘That’s a good problem to have. That’s a good problem for all preachers to have. That’s why I could never be a politician.’”

Klein’s book will be released May 15.

Looks like the "Wright distraction" has risen from the grave to haunt the Obama re-election campaign.

    Ed Morrissey:

Hey, guess who's back? In his new book on Barack Obama titled The Amateur, Edward Klein caught up with Jeremiah Wright, Obama's minister and friend for 20 years and pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. The Hillary Clinton campaign nearly derailed Obama's nomination by digging up Wright's incendiary and controversial sermons at TUCC, including exhortations like, "God damn America!" and saying that 9/11 was nothing more than America's chickens coming home to roost -- among many other statements. Obama later proclaimed ignorance of Wright's rants despite his long association with TUCC, and eventually renounced Wright and TUCC entirely when Wright wouldn't keep his mouth shut.

In his on-the-record interview with Klein, Wright claims that an Obama ally offered him $150,000 to keep his mouth shut and stop preaching until after the election, in excerpts published by the New York Post today.

I found this excerpt particularly enlightening. After the bribe was offered Wright, Obama paid him a visit:

"And one of the first things Barack said was, 'I really wish you wouldn't do any more public speaking until after the November election.' He knew I had some speaking engagements lined up, and he said, 'I wish you wouldn't speak. It's gonna hurt the campaign if you do that.'

"And what did you say?" I asked. "I said, 'I don't see it that way. And anyway, how am I supposed to support my family?' And he said, 'Well, I wish you wouldn't speak in public. The press is gonna eat you alive.'

"Barack said, 'I'm sorry you don't see it the way I do. Do you know what your problem is?' And I said, 'No, what's my problem?' And he said, 'You have to tell the truth.' I said, 'That's a good problem to have. That's a good problem for all preachers to have. That's why I could never be a politician.'

Morrissey points out that this makes Obama out to be a liar when he said he didn't listen to Wright's sermons for 20 years. He knew full well the kind of poison Wright had been spewing all those years. Chillingly, it also shows Obama agrees with his pastor "telling the truth" about America.

In case you haven't noticed, the press is ignoring both this story and the book. It will be interesting to see how the campaign responds and whether or not Wright confirms the allegation.

Keep trying SoCal !!! your far right TBagger types and the Christian Fundi's that keep stretching this stuff, are desparate to find something to diminish Obama since nothing has worked well yet. But keep trying, because its mostly a bad reflection on you and your ilk's cause, These are all good for laughs.

Lots of luck though finding something on this preacher worse than the reverend Hagee and his Ilk blaming 9-11 on gays, the New Orleans flooding on gays, and many other really stupid statements and bible superstitions, about the US failing because its turned its back on the fundi's god.

Carry on !! you people make yourselves look more and more backward and stupid the more you try to make cases where there aren't any. I Understand SoCal that your TBaggers are rejoining with the Birthers too !!! LOTS O' LUCK !!

Wait. I thought Obama was a dog meat eating Kenyan Muslim "Manchurian" candidate born in Indonesia.

Why would he need Jeremiah Wright to keep quiet?

Will be interesting if and when Wright decides to comment about the book. This is new, not something rehashed from 2008. Although the main factor that will influence the upcoming election is the economy, fact is character also counts. It also ties into the economy. There are some who might be swayed to believe him when he says things took longer and all will be well if he only has more time. I can't imagine anyone believing that, but some might. If they see proof that he does not tell the truth and cannot be trusted, they may be less likely to give him another chance.

Apparently, Larry Fink the CEO of BlackRock - the largest asset management firm in the country believes it.

Some might? The entire membership right here on RJ believes it! icon_eek.gif

Well let's not say the entire membership. There are some smart ones who post from time to time, just like yesterday. But I was thinking of the population as a whole who haven't bought into the liberal/socialist program.

The thing about Larry Fink - Is he tied to Holder and immune from investigation as long as this administration is in power?

    JPtheBITCH saidThis is hilarious.

Keep trying, guys. This one doesn't even make sense. If you want to try to bamboozle the public with lies, they have to be at least sort of plausible.

If the book is an accurate quote from Rev. Wright, then you must be calling him a liar. On what basis do you make that allegation? Is what has been attributed to him so unbelievable?

JPtheBITCH saidBecause if you read it carefully, and if you believe it to begin with, it never says that Obama offered Wright money. It says that Wright received an email offering the cash, but doesn't say from whom it came. In his account of the one-on-one, he doesn't say that Obama offered him anything.

In other words, no story here.

Doesn't require a careful reading. First article first sentence "A ally of ...", and Obama begged him to stay quiet. No one said what the path of the money was. Obama did want him to lie, oh I mean stretch the truth. That may be the story.

JPtheBITCH saidRomney is already established as a serial liar. This smear against Obama won't stick.

If Wright stands by what he has been quoted, it is a different ballgame. Everyone can label everyone else as a liar, but when someone is quoted as advocating lying, that will likely stick.

If character counted (as you said) then President Cheney would never have been elected to office.

From registered Democrat pundit Mickey Kaus:
    http://dailycaller.com/2012/05/15/is-obama-another-edwards/

Maybe I’m missing something, but if Obama’s pal Dr. Eric Whitaker did offer Rev. Wright $150,000 to stay silent for the duration of the campaign, as charged by Ed Klein, how exactly is that different from John Edwards’ pal Fred Baron giving Rielle Hunter money to stay out of the limelight for the duration of the campaign? It’s a good question asked by lawyer/blogger Ted Frank. … Like Frank and Prof. Rick Hasen, I think the Edwards prosecution is misguided, potentially criminalizing lots of donations that might have ulterior political motives (like money spent funding think tanks or making hagiographic documentary movies). But if what Edwards did is fair game for prosecutors, why isn’t what Obama potentially did (assuming you could show a) that Obama knew of Whitaker’s offer, and b) also that he knew it was illegal–the latter being something the prosecution has had trouble proving in the Edwards matter)? …

One difference, I suppose, is that in the Edwards case the money was actually paid, while Wright is said to have turned down the offer. But is that a defense? If you try to use illegal campaign cash to buy TV time, but the station turns you down, can’t you still be prosecuted for trying? …

I wouldn't trust Jeremiah Wright if he told me the sky was blue.

Unlike you, my measure of people is based on their history not on whether or not their current claims/positions/lies suits me politically.

As soon as there's substantiation of Wright's claim, I'd be happy to revisit it. Otherwise, it's just another in the long line of lies about the president. icon_rolleyes.gif

There is some discussion about why Rev Wright is being discussed again. The new book and interview with Rev Wright are the reasons.

5/17/2012 Sean Hannity has the recording of the 3 hour interview with Rev Wright and will do into it during his next few programs. Said to be explosive.

The lies coming from the GOP are just nauseating....

"The Times reported today that a $10 million plan developed by "a group of high-profile Republican strategists" and Joe Ricketts, the founder of TD Ameritrade, will seek to link "Mr. Obama to incendiary comments by his former spiritual adviser, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., whose race-related sermons made him a highly charged figure in the 2008 campaign."

"The group suggested hiring as a spokesman an 'extremely literate conservative African-American' who can argue that Mr. Obama misled the nation by presenting himself as what the proposal calls a 'metrosexual, black Abe Lincoln,'" the Times reported."
