I thought gays love Cubans because they're all stereotypically hot.

    Cubans?

From what I've seen on Seinfeld, Cubans have a rich taste, though they tend to burn down log cabins.

JK. Actually I don't have a problem with them. And I will be moving to Miami soon so I better get used to them. Here is a story I just read a few minutes ago....

It's 2012! I don't generally think anything about a whole group of people.

Since when have Cubans been hated? I know of no such thing!

If anything, I met the nicest people in Cuba... friendlier than anywhere else I've met in all of Latin America.. even the Cubans of Miami are very friendly.... its not the Cubans that make up the unfriendly part of South Beach

Sigh, all this talk of Latin-America is making me homesick now lol.. I need to take a trip to florida at some point haha

There are people that hate Cubans? The Cubans I've met rock! But there is a distinction between those who identify themselves as Cuban and those who identify themselves as Americans who happen to have family from Cuba. They do often view reality differently, at least when it comes to people who are different from them. I love Cuban Cubans, but I admit to a little different view of American identifying Cubans though. There is something different and a little not natural with American identifying Cubans, at least in their dealings with people different from them who are African or other brown Latin. And this is different often from their Cuban Cuban "bretheren" (although I'm not sure that you can use that word between the two types), at least based on my experiences anyway. but that's just one African descendant man's opinion. I could be wrong.

There has always been a certain amount of, for lack of a better word, "sibling rivalry", among Latin Americans. The U.S. classification system likes to lump Latinos as one big homogenous group, but there is many differences among us. I notice it from time to time but I don't think many Anglo or African Americans see it.

Oh, I couldn't agree more. Even though we all have the Spanish language in common, I find there are quite a few cultural differences among us. We're all as different from each other as Americans, Brits, Irish, Canadians, Aussies, Kiwis, and South Africans are different from each other.

If it weren't for Cubans, Miami wouldn't exist.

No they don't. They disassemble log cabins to built rafts. icon_razz.gif

I hate when someone lights one up at a party or some other gathering. That stinking smoke carries a long way and permeates everything.

When I was a kid growing up in an East Coast rustbelt shithole, I had one Cuban Spanish teacher who was an asshole, maybe even possibly a bigot, and another Cuban Spanish teacher who meant the world to me. So many years later, I still think of her every now and then. I guess they, and another Spanish teacher who was a native born American were good teachers because even in my advanced age, I can still converse, read and write in Spanish.
