So I sprained/twisted my ankle pretty bad last weekend fighting at a karate tournament, and it's still pretty tender to walk on.
But this being beach season and all, I definitely need to keep up with some cardio. My usual exercises involve running/biking, martial arts, and dance, which all put strain on the feet/ankles.
Aside from swimming, are there any cardio exercises that put little to no strain on your feet/ankles?

PS Shakeweight is not an option. haha

Depending on how far you are into healing, bike and elliptic back can do the trick, but if there is still blood swelling, you will make it worse.

To work with ankle higher, you have the rowing machine.

But if I was you, I would only go for swimming, it's a very very bad idea to delay full recovery, working on injury can make it worse and make healing a lot longer.

If it's still swollen, swimming will make it swell even more, so be prepared for RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation) afterward or it will be painful. I've had swollen ankles twice in my life, and the first time I didn't even know it was injured until after swim practice when it blew up in size from the circulation.

There are also the arm ergometer machines at some gyms...not as good of a workout due to smaller muscles though. Consider circuit training with lighter weights at the gym allowing as little rest between sets as possible--idea to keep your heart pumping but not tire your muscles out...yet still recruit enough muscle mass to strain the cardiovascular system.

It's not necessarily bad at all, just be prepared to do RICE afterward. Increased circulation speeds healing, but it also has an effect on swelling. Swelling/inflammation is part of the healing process actually. Some people choose to have less swelling over a longer period, others wish to have it acutely.

Depending on how bad the ankle is, you might be able to tape it up tight enough to use a rowing machine. You definitely drive with the legs for a major portion of the movement but if you can immobilize it enough, it could work.
