I just moved to Asheville and I love to hike. I’d very much enjoy meeting someone who’s familiar with a few good local trails of a pretty good intensity. I’d like a lead to a great route where I could focus on the environment and the experience with someone who’s use to the trail and won’t get us lost. My profile can be viewed here. I’m on a sabbatical and can make myself available with the right person.

I've been in the Phoeniz area since January, and haven't found a hiking partner yet. But I have hiked a couple mountains, and in the proces found a couple guys who'll hike with me when we both get time off together eventually.

Moral of the story: Go fucking hike. It's fun with or without partners. icon_biggrin.gif

And by "moderately intense hike" you mean what, exactly? icon_wink.gif

Top 40 Asheville area hikes from Romantic Asheville.com. Personally, I think Graveyard Fields is a pretty cool hike ... and the area between Craggy Gardens and Mount Mitchell on the BR Parkway has some good hiking spots.

Have fun! AVL is a great town.

You could also head down to Nantahala Outdoor Center in Wesser, NC. They've got a huge library of books in the retail store with tons of information on local hiking. They've also got a message board. You probably won't find a gay guy to hike with but you should be able to find someone local who'll be happy to get out with you.

NOC is awesome! Will be rafting there Memorial Day weekend. Also ziplining nearby. That's such a pretty spot in the state - one of my favorites.

There must be some hiking and camping stores around. check to see if they have bulletin boards.

Lucky man. You have moved to one of the most beautiful areas ever.

Hey There- One of my favorite hikes is in Hot Springs, NC about 45min. North of Asheville.
It's a section of the AT and goes along the top of a ridge on the East side of the town and does a switchback trail all the way down the side of the mtn, ending up at the river, where you walk along the river and back up to the main road into town. What I do is have the little hiking/supply store in town take me up to the AT overpass and drop me off, then do the hike all the way into town.
It has rise and fall in elevation, great view of the town and river, and takes a good 2 1/2 hours.
Then of course it's time to do a tub at the hot springs.
Let me know if you wanna go sometime...

Hello there! I actually live in Asheville, and am always looking for hiking buddies. I prefer to head up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you want a fairly intense hike, I know quite a few places that could be just what you're looking for.

    Message me if you're interested.
