Seems like it wasn't only just "1" person who opposed his appointment. An openly gay man who was nominated for a position of judgeship was rejected by the Republican controlled House in VA amidst complaints by Delegate Bob Marshall about him being unfit for being gay. He was the only one who was nominated who was rejected. Some house members state that they don't recall any other judges being rejected in the last 3+ years.

Moral of the story: If you are openly gay, good luck standing on your merits. To a Republican, you are gay, and that's the only job disqualification that you need.

The right wing of the GOP is the world's largest walk in closet. These hypocrites are just trying to cover it all up so they can keep getting campaign contributions from the fundamentalist lunatics. This recent action by Virginia republicans just helps maintain the closet for all these self loathing right wingers.

The racist GAY Republicans who also help these people should also be condemend. It is time to call these people exactly what they are, and not allow them to hide behind their usual fiscal smokescreen. Tea Party is just a kind word for a mob of racists and homophobes.

I am embarrassed to be a Virginian today - again. I have emailed my state delegate and senator, emailed Bob Marshall (to tell him he's a homophobic monster and should resign immediately, hah), posted about this on Facebook and added my comments to the WaPo story.

When Virginia passed the anti-SSM constitutional amendment a few years ago, the proponents told us all, don't worry, all it will do is keep you from getting marriage licenses, nothing else. This event shows what a complete and utter lie that was. Because the nominee referred to himself as "married" to his partner, he was accused of subverting the Virginia constitution and promoting unlawfulness.

    Shameful, shameful, shameful.

What has happened in Virginia over the past few years is a terrible disgrace. Another beautiful, scenic state being handed to the narrow minded, bible thumping screwballs. How sad.icon_sad.gif

It's not all bad. Virginia truly is a "purple" state - as frustrating as it can be, that is one of the reasons that I live here. My vote can make a real difference. For example, when Jim Webb was elected to the Senate, he won by only 9329 votes.

But for today, I'm embarrassed to be a Virginian.

It is time for Virginia to become a more blue, democratic state like its neighbor across the Potomac, Maryland. You definitely don't want Virginia to end up like West Virginia, an impoverished GOP bastion being hydrofracked beyond belief.

I think so, too, but Virginia politics are very different than Maryland politics. In a very real sense, Maryland is the north, and Virginia is the south, even though they're both on the same side of the Mason Dixon line.

The assholes in the southern and western parts of the state (sorry, I don't mean you, Coach_Mike and others) are in direct opposition to the more liberal DC and Hampton Roads areas. Even though all the money flows from our pockets down to them, they have the gall to view US as the interlopers. The exurbs are the true battlegrounds here.
