What do you have in common with your "straight" friends?

I see so many gay guys (not only on here, but everywhere) say how most of their male friends are straight, and that they don't have a lot of gay friends.

Don't get me wrong, I wish I had straight male friends, but it seems hard for me to make them. I can have casual talk with males, but it seems most of them seem to bond over banging girls and sports (which I don't hate, but I don't really follow or keep up with either).

So for those of you who claim to be friends hang out with straight guys, what do you guys do when you hang out, and what do you talk about?

It's not like I have a ton in common with my female friends, but for whatever reason it's a lot easier for me to become friends with girls than it is with guys and I'd like to change that. icon_sad.gif

hmm... we laugh a lot, we drink a lot, we talk about life in general and not the next ass we want to see riding our dicks...whether female or male.

    etc...

I go with my best buddy to the gym, to dinner, out shooting, to the movies, to straight bars. He'll go to gay bars with me too. He's cool with it. We're just there to hang out with each other and have a good time. We talk about video games, he tells me about his girlfriend, I talk about whoever I'm seeing... it's not really a big deal I don't think.

Almost everything, minus the gender of those we fall in love for; though we both don't care what process brought us to desire to be with whom fall in love and go to bed with.

We live in a small town. 90% of our friends are straight. We talk about all the usual stuff boring late-30s people talk about: weather, politics, music, kids, BDSM, cars, beer, gossip, whatever.

Yes, BDSM was all the rage at the dinner parties I attended in my 30s. When you reach your 40s though, the talk tends to turn towards sexual asphyxiation.
That's because by their 40's they're tired of listening to each other, so they strangle each other instead.

Most of our conversations with straight friends consist of my husband trying to put a lid on my outspoken positions on every social and political issue that some mouth-breather ignorantly wanders into. No really... well that and health, cars and guitars. At least that's all I hear.

That's because once he gets going, it'll turn into a tornado of outrage unless I cut it off at the pass.

My straight mates and I talk about all the usual stuff 40 somethings talk about, how its easy all of a sudden to put on weight, how we cant drink much anymore, how bloody expensive stuff is now, how fucked our bosses are, make fun of each others sexual preferences, we also tease each other mercilessly on any subject the usual guy banter.

Um---so why are you two hangin' with the mouth-breathers anyway?

They're like moths to a flame(r). Go somewhere nice with good friends and a few of them inevitably show up. Usually friends of friends that have no other friends. icon_smile.gif

...straights and gays are no different than the people who they fall in love with.

There are gays who love sports, shooting, throwing back some beers, and other "manly" stuff. There are straight men that don't like that stuff.

    Don't be so stereotypical.
