I loved Sophia, well all of them. Picture it 1985-92, on Saturday night at 10, lonely gay boy never missed an episode.

Years afterward my stories are as plentiful as Sophia's and purposely started out with,"Picture it...".

I have fond memories of Sophia and the entire cast from back in the day, but as a gay man, I really don't understand the gay icon status of "The Golden Girls". So Bea Arthur is a lesbian, but beyond that; can someone explain?

Yea, she will be missed, but come on... we already have to hear about it on every tv station, and probably will for 3 months, just like every other actor/actress. Like there lives are more precious than everyone elses. I don't think it's right.

Watch the show as if each character were a gay man. Then you'll get it.

    Thanks for the heads up.
I guess her attraction as Sophia was the ability to say what was on her mind and get away with it.
I remember the episode where Blanche tells them she is going to take a bath, with just enough water to cover her perky bossoms; to which Sophia replies "you're going to take a bath in an inch of water?!" Classic!
What a way to go, in your sleep, old and admired!

If you remember the show Totally Obsessed on VH1--it was short-lived and was all about people who take fandom to extremes. A buddy of mine and his roommates were huge Golden Girls fans, and they sent in a video of themselves dressed up in old-lady dresses and acting out a scene.

I'm sad about Sophia. Gonna do a mini-marathon of episodes and curl up into a ball.

[This is my first post...it took Estelle Getty to pull me out of lurking icon_smile.gif]

I'm basically on a daily dose of the Golden Girls. Their jokes have become a second, intuitive language between me and my boyfriend.

I have enjoyed a lot of sitcoms over the years, but none have endured the way GG has. Thanks in great part to Estelle Getty.

    She is missed.

'Bea Arthur saying: Relationship on show 'one of the greatest comic duos ever'
    and 'Estelle Getty's
Son saying: "She was one of the most talented comedic actresses who ever lived" is a bit 'much'...and sounds self serving.
