Today the Knesset (Israeli Parliment) rejected a bill that would have established civil marriage on equal footing with religious marriage and granted same sex couples the ability to marry within Israel's borders.

Israel currently recognizes same sex marriages performed abroad.

All marriages performed in Israel are done so in accordance with the Chief Rabbinate, which is an institution populated with extremist, backward thinking assholes.

Sad day for GLBT families in Israel and a terrible blow to our reputation as being open and tolerant of GLBT people in a region of hate and intolerance.

Israel was considered a place that was accepting of gays? I didn't know that but this makes things seem differently, I'm sure it'll change sooner or later.
