I dunno about this specific topic, no personal experience.

But here's what happened to me a few weeks ago. My golf instructor, a former PGA pro, who was recommended to me by another golfing RJ member here, totally floored me with a request.

He knows I'm gay, of course, I never conceal that. He asked me if I would help his gay son, and his partner, to get established socially in Wilton Manors, where I live. He knows my partner & I are very prominent here, know everyone, on the A+ list.

But I was kinda taken aback. The father is just a year older than me (64), a pro in a sport not known for being very gay friendly, at least in the years when he was active. I almost cried when he asked me for the favor.

Needless to say I instantly agreed, and have already met his son & partner for lunch, and will continue to do what I can for them.

I don't know whether this father changed his previous attitude about gay marriage or not. At 64 I can suspect what it once must have been. But to be approached like that totally overwhelmed me. "Will you help my gay son and his partner?"

Can I nominate him for Father of the Year?
