So this might be kinda late notice for this week, but I am trying to start something bigger. I am planning on going running tomorrow (thursday) evening at Lake Eola, and I am looking for anybody who might want to join me. The plan is to warm up around 6:30 and run at 7:00. Afterwards I want to get cleaned up, (I may join Metro Muscle downtown to accomplish this) and then head over to Enzian to catch the last showing (9:30) of Chicago 10.

Ordinarily this wouldn't warrant a post. I've been running by myself for years.

But here's the part about "something bigger"

I'd like to organize a group of runners to join me at the Disney Marathon in January, as a means to raise awareness and hopefully some money for local GLBT organizations. Also, I just think it would be a great way to network and get to know people outside the whole club/bar scene. People that are actually into taking care of their bodies, minds, souls, and each other. Yeah I actually have some hope left for our kind.

Now I know it sounds crazy.

Its not. Anybody can get involved and help out with this. Athlete or not. I need people to help spread the word, I am sure somebody you know would be into running this thing with me. Some of you are much more familiar with the organizations I hope to help, I'd like to pick your brains to see how best we can serve our community. And to everyone that thinks running 26.2 miles is impossible. Its not. Over 10,000 people run/walk this event every year. If you are even in moderately good condition and able to run 3 miles (I would hope so, this is "realjock" lol), I have found a training program that can get you to complete the marathon in 16 weeks. The event is January 11th. That means you have until the beginning of September before the 16 weeks begins, to get up to even the beginning level.
I am not an elite athlete, or a professional runner. This will be my first marathon attempt. I don't claim to be a coach. I am sure many of you are better runners than I am. All I can say is that I enjoy doing it and have for many years, and now I'd like to also get involved with a cause that means a lot to me. I can help provide motivation, training tips and schedules, organize meet ups once or twice a week, I am willing to drive to orlando, and share whatever experience or information I have that is useful. Maybe a discussion group after runs would be benefitial to everyone. I dunno, I am open to ideas.

so if anyone is interested, just let me know My cell is 321.277.3048. If you are on here, I am trusting you guys to use responsibly. If you contact me on it for any other reason, outside of running/training, I will not respond. I am gonna try to get out to Lake Eola every Thursday, Sunday, and possibly mondays during the rest of the summer. After work picks back up at the Theatre where I work, in September I am not sure how my schedule will be, but if there's enough interest i will make it work.

any feedback would be much appreciated. There might already be a group like this, I'd love information on how to get involved.icon_biggrin.gif
