I'm thinking of heading to DC for the Memorial Day weekend. I have done all the tourist spots (Smithsonian, Capitol Hill, Lincoln Memorial, etc.) I was reviewing the forums and read about Number Nine, Cobalt, and Town. Other than that, what would the locals recommend a New Yorker to do?

Go to Georgetown. It's the most beautiful part of DC. It's the most expensive area in the city and only the rich live there. There's alot of restaurants with outside seating and there's a huge bar and restaurant area near the harbor where people bring their boats and throw parties while docked. I always find parking but depending on the day, it might take you a while. There is no metro to get there (which is a good thing). The area is very classy and gay friendly.

Georgetown is definitely a good area. Dupont Circle has a good bar scene as well, but most of the gay bars are around 9th & U. Nellie's is a good sports bar there, but if you prefer clubs Town is ok. I'm much more a bar person than a club person, so I usually go to Nellie's or the straight bars if I'm with straight friends.

You could go over to Old Town Alexandria, down to George Washington's Mansion, Annapolis/Baltimore would be a bit of a drive, but they are both very different from DC. There is also areas a bit closer in across Maryland, like Downtown Bethesda.

I'm sick of Town, I guess my nightclub days are over. I stopped going to Fur and Lima even though my favorite DJs spin there icon_sad.gif

Nellies can be chill but now that they started playing loud music, it's so annoying. I don't understand why they need a DJ or loud music in the patio unless they're slowly trying to turn it into a club.
