Baz Luhrmann's adaption looks amazing - so flashy and over the top.
Leo fit the eponymous role perfectly, I think.

it's required reading in my most HS Am Lit classes. i've read it 3 or 4 times. the irony's pretty heavy handed, but a quick read.

It's a classic book and I had to read it in college and couldn't finish it. Didn't like it at all. Tried to watch the movie about ten years later and didn't like the movie either. I'm probably the only one who didn't like it for some reason.

I loved the book. I read it in 8th grade, and then again in high school (required reading).

Jordan Baker was my favorite character in the book.

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

Jordan Baker was MY favorite character too. I loved her outlook on life - she may be a careless driver, but it's up to other people to watch out for her!

After watching the trailer, it looks too over the top to actually convey the meaning of the book (or underlying themes). The flashy set designs, dancers, etc. just seems to be too excessive dramatic, but that kinda how the 1920s were icon_rolleyes.gif

First I read the book then I watched the original movie. I was impressed with the book and somewhat impressed with the movie (because I got a more visual representation of the surroundings). However, the movie didn't really have the heart and soul. I feel like the new remake will just make things worse. It seems to look like a Hollywood money maker movie that boasts an attractive set and characters that overlooks the depiction of society in the 1920s and the psychological effects it has on the characters depicted in the book.

Sure maybe I am jumping the gun on this, but its my first opinion and may opinion can change after I learn more about this new movie and actually see it.

I'm pretty sad about the trailer... Tobey looks like such a disappointment and, while I really liked the other Luhrman movies, this one looks like it will not be as good. Gatsby is one of my all time favorite books, and I have rarely seen a movie beat the book. Just sayin'.

I'm confused as to how Tobery gets top billing over Leo. Anyone want to explain that? I mean it showed mostly Leo right.

    This looks amazing !!!

Baz's films always have so much energy and the cast is great for this movie. Carey Mulligan is a brilliant actress and she looks so beautiful in trailer.

I also love the use of contemporary music for a film set in the 20's. Just hope there is a decent script behind all the 'razzle dazzle'.

I do have to read it in High school for most of the student, here in France. SO I just assume that students in the US read it to!

I plan on viewing the latest "Gatsby" version this weekend.

I will withold my immediate "knee jerk" reaction to the "modern" soundtrack until I see it in it's element and have viewed the newest movie in it's entirety.
