Gays On Mars

When pondering the sexual behavior of humans on a 2+ year voyage, scientists and astronauts often become concerned with the probability of procreation during the proposed two year trip to Mars.

My personal theory is that it would be more feasible to send gay astronauts on longer missions to prevent the inevitable extra expense that would be incurred as a result of child birth.

Yeah, "forcing" hetero astronauts to use contraception could be a possible solution, but who's going to enforce it? Even if someone does, is it humanly possible to stop some dude from pre-cumming in his girlfriend/wife and accidentally creating a child while in an environment that has no basic support system in place to care for it?

The funny question is why the fuck am I posting this on a gay site instead of asking space programs directly.

The answer is because I don't know all the space programs. Many are working on the Mars project. Hopefully someone in this forum (or lurking the forum) will know some of them an get the question out to those whom it affects.

Anyway, what's your opinion? Should the first crew of long-term (2+ years) astronauts be exclusively gay?

No, I want to see a baby born in space.
Imagine the potential superpowers that kid would have after being exposed to all those space rays and such.

Not a bad approach at all, even witty. You can leave your suggestion to Robert Zubrin, president of the Mars Society. He has one of the most promising plans to go to Mars.
    http://www.marssociety.org/home/contact
    or even in NASA:
    http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/feedback/

But, i'm afraid there aren't too much gay astronauts or gay explorers, you know :S and the final goal of the so-called space conquest is to spread human life beyond earth

Sending gays and only gays to mars would mean a lot of fucking and very little mission.

That's a scenario most scifi movies featuring gender mixed crews have skipped. But the thought of an all gay crew is inspiring...from Gay Bars to Gay Mars. Send enough gays and they'll open Mars Bars.

    1) I love the recoil on the monitor when the flames shoot out. Brilliant.

    2) One proposal I've seen for Martian colonization is to start with a series of one-way trips, sending people who don't expect to return. The proposal's authors suggested sending the elderly or terminally ill, but I suppose we could also send those who want a very clean break with their old lives. It would be the most awesome hospice EVER.

My dad is doing some work with NASA right now, specifically related to potential Mars trips and stuff! Exciting shiz. icon_biggrin.gif (He doesn't work for NASA, but NASA hired him as a consultant.)

Gotta figure Mars is an incredibly inhospitable place.

    Sorta like 1970s Wyoming.

With suboptimal air pressure, cold-as-fuck summers (to say nothing of winters...) and beaches without any water.

    And three-titty-having women.

The rockets would definitely have a different design if I were.

I have actually worked on some pre-planning for pre-planning for planning for a manned Mars mission. I pointed out two important holes in the (pre-pre) plan that will be ignored until someone at NASA can be convinced that it was their idea in the first place. icon_rolleyes.gif

Anyway, one of the problems was that the mission architecture had no provision to recover from a fairly common and inevitable sort of accident. This crazy astronaut gave me a furious sit-down-and-shut-up sort of glare and snarled "We don't plan for there to BE any accidents."

Yeah, the whole exercise was clearly a waste of time and I didn't stay involved for very long.

And besides, we haven't finished ass-raping this planet; Mars really might not be ready for an infestation of us just yet.
