Just keeps getting better and better. The choreography is off the hook, and the dance talent is jaw-dropping. Definitely my favorite guilty pleasure of summer '08.

    I don't think this is the best season . . . Sorry icon_redface.gif

But I DEFINATELY appreciate the works of art that are graced into the homes of a rather artless middletown america icon_biggrin.gif

Translation of Stripper's comment? Well, he refers to the show as "So you think you can do circus tricks" icon_lol.gif

I liked that Demented Circus routine. It was fun! I'm sure if Alexander* were allowed to be on there with his bullwhip, he wouldn't be as critical.

*Editted cuz I know that names are important. I hate it when people add letters to my name that aren't there.

    1. It's Alexander.... NOT Alex. i fucking HATE THAT.

    2. The show is the single worst thing to happen to legitimate dancing in the history of time. What they deem as "contemporary" is not even remotely contemporary... and what is this whole new category... the pas de deux? Seriously, real dancers and dance enthusiasts know that almost EVERYTHING on that show is a god damn pas de deux. Anytime someone dances with a PARTNER it is a pas de deux.

    3. Where are the OTHER dance styles? Where is the ballet category? Where is tap? Why are those not categories on the mind numbing show.

    4. Lets talk about that cow Mia Micheals, who yes, is a cunt in real life, and yes, is fat. And NO has NOT worked with Prince, Madonna, or Ricky Martin, like her resume says. I love how everyone thinks her shit is so amazing, when i saw the exact same "routine" last week when i had to take my friend to the emergency room and someone was having a seizure! Give that eplieptic an EMMY!

I am with you CuriousJockAZ. I really like the show. I also agree with StripperRocco as far as Mia Micheals goes. I can't stand that bitch. I do enjoy watching the dancers and I think the choreography is awesome.

I want Debbie Allen to choreograph something. She could use the cane that she used in the opening of Fame.

I'm sure to someone who is a professional dancer, the show has flaws. But, overall, to just the average viewer who isn't schooled in modern dance, it's pretty amazing and fun to watch. I think this show is huge in terms of what it has done to illuminate the art of DANCE to the general public. I've loved seeing the different style of even just "Hip Hop". I can also see how Mia Michaels is probably a raging bitch. That being said, she does some pretty incredible routines for the dancers, and the one last night with the door was very creative.

Again, I agree. I loved the one with the door. I also really like the slow popping. I think that was what it was called.

    stripper -

as a former dancer (thank you very much) i understand your position on sytycd. however, i also feel that bringing dance to the unwashed masses is a positive thing. yes, it sucks that it has to be dumbed down for general consumption. yes, it sucks that ass-hat heffers like mia michaels are considered demi-gods (or just plain god, in her own mind)... but if it means more kids are going to become interested in the art and can get PROPERLY educated about dance, isn't it almost ok?

btw - i'm still in love with neil from last season. is that wrong?

Wade did the first group routine of this year. I read that he's not going to do much else this year, though. It's sad.

    WADE ROBSON (almost always) SUCKS!

Most of his shit is just people in bad costumes and worse make up doing herky-jerky movements, dancing NEXT to each other but not WITH each other.

And last season I thought I was going to have an aneurysm from watching each dancer do the same damn Wade Robson solo to that fake protest song* with the stupid fake dancer-scream in the middle of the number.

I'm not sure I've made my attitude toward him clear, so let me say, WADE ROBSON (almost always) SUCKS!

    * No real protester/activist sits around complaining about their lack of power and concluding their best course of action is simply "waiting for the world to change."

Damn, will have to youtube it, thanks.

And metroPAULitan - no, nothing wrong with loving Neil still. Especially not if someone is still thinking of Nick from the first, or Travis from the second. Forgot all about Dmitri until last night.

oooooh. travis. yes. me likey! and i've even taken quite a shine to mark (the quirkiness) and will (that BODY) this season.

I agree with metroPAULitan to an extent. But I do think more stress should be given to more classical forms of dance, especially ballet. Any dancer knows that ballet should be the foundation for any dance career. It teaches proper placement and form so that you can use your body to it's fullest.

I just hope that if kids do look into dance, they don't just go into hip-hop classes because they'll probably get injured quickly. SYTYCD really should stress the importance of proper training.

I thought all the choreographies last night were excellent. It's the first time I have enjoyed all the dances (excluding the solos) since this season started. In some respects I think the judges are biased towards Comfort and Mark. It's seems that they are programed to just highlight only the negative parts of their routine. They praise every other routine and highlight the good parts for other couples and only mention the bad parts now and again. But it's the complete opposite for Comfort and Mark and I think it's un-fair. By no means I am saying they are the best dancers because they aren't but the judges are just huge A-holes when judging these two. (I think both are going home tonight)

Oh well...only one can win and right now my favs are Will and Katee

Does anybody else find Chelsie and Cat Deeley Hot? I think they are smoking.

i was just talking to my best friend about the show! i do enjoy it, and i've watched it since the first season. though this season, probably due to not having a particular dancer i like, i have been sort of ehh about it.

i still need to watch the last hour of last night's show, though i did like the first hour, i think the choreography is much better than i've seen all season.

I haven't gotten to see all the episodes this season, but love the show!

I do agree with the other dancers, that it would be great to see ballet and tap routines. Though you can see that some of the dancers do have ballet training. Ballroom, hip-hop, broadway and all that are great but wouldn't it be nice to see some pointe work? Or get Savion Glover to choreograph a fierce tap routine?

StripperRocco, I think calling the show "mind numbing" is an insult to some very talented dancers. Just because all forms that you'd like to see aren't represented doesn't negate their talent. Nor does it mean the show has absolutely no cultural value. Clearly, with all the dance shows on the air right now, people are excited about dance!

Yeah, but too often it trains the humanity out of a dancer. It also makes kids feel terrible about themselves if they don't have 90 degree turnout, legs higher than their heads and 6 pirhouettes. Give me the late bloomers any day - Sabra, Donyelle, Twitch. That's why this show is so great - the best technicians are not always the best dancers and "proper placement" is not what makes a dancer great.

Oh, and yeah, Cat is fierce. So hot, so funny, natural. The best thing that happened to the show since it started.

icon_rolleyes.gif Give me technique and enough dedication and passion to suffer, sweat, bleed, cry, and WORK day in and day out at the barre and centre than a bunch of circus tricks, acrobatics, flopping and twitching anyday!
Street stuff looks cool and all, bouncing on your head, or spinning on your arm a la Cloud (Madonna's dancer), and K stands and popping and locking are all fine and dandy, but it reminds me of the saying "If you can't wow them with mastery and wizardry, dazzle them with bullshit!"
