Just came out to my father.

He was the last person in my family I had to come out to. I had dinner with him and his girlfriend tonight. And right before I left I said... "There's actually been something I've been meaning to talk to you about. I don't really know how to go about saying this, so I'll just say it... I'm gay."

There was a VERY long pause, a little confusion, some more pause, and then speechlessness. It took all of about 20 minutes to get him to talk... but he ended up coming around. We hugged, I asked if he still loved me, he does, and that was it.

Trollileo saidCongratulations. I'm sorry it sounded awkward, but at least he said he still loves you. My parents didn't tell me they loved me until at least a month after I came out to them.

I love you though. isn't that all that matters?

Sweet child, in the past I was deceived plenty of times by such "homesexuals" that in reality were not homosexual at all but rather our half brothers otherwise known as the bisexuals. Those that have no scruples or morals and have left our sides during the harshest times. But now I stand clear in my thought and am sure of my status as a bonafied homosexual. The lesson I've learn from these events is that the true intentions of one is usually hidden amongst the broader term of a homosexual man.

Thanks guys. I really thought that he wouldn't have a problem with it, but as soon as the words came out of my mouth, and I saw his teeth clench, my stomach dropped and the pause he took before he spoke felt like hours...

Sounds not so much that he has a problem with it, its just a very awkward conversation to have with someone, especially a parent. Claiming you are gay to someone immediately has them thinking about sex, etc. Same reason you don't want to think of your parents having sex, they don't want to be thinking of you that way either!

Congrats! Expect some more awkward moments around him till it settles in his mind. After that you should be back to a completely happy father/son relationship. icon_biggrin.gif

The first thing that popped into my mind after I said it is... "he must be trying to imagine me having sex with another guy..." AWKWARD.

    Congrats.

But give dad a break. I'm going to guess it took you longer than (what seemed like) 20 minutes to accept yourself.

I don't know your dad or your relationship with him, but expect him to have some questions/issues - and maybe not ask because, well, AWKWARD. You might want to follow up with him in the near future. Maybe go out just the two of you and ask if now that he's had some time to mull it over... if there's anything he wants to say or ask....
