When it comes to computer viruses, you’re now more likely to catch one visiting a church website than surfing for porn.

There's some sort of 'poetic justice' to all this...

Easy target. People who use them just do what they are told without thinking.

"the online porn industry in the 1990s resembled the online religious community today"

Because porn sites don't ask for donations.

It's nothing to do with hackers, but rather that church websites are more likely to pass a virus to you. That they got from some other site, that members were visiting. Porn, perhaps? Who can say.

But evidently they visit "dirty" sites that are likely to pass a virus to you. So avoid church sites, if you wanna avoid viruses, is the message here.

One time our company got a bunch of spam. I checked the headers and they were all sent from a church's email server. So I sent an email to the webmaster email address, explaining that their server might have been compromised and to have someone fix it.

Next day, I got an email from the pastor and he thanked me for notifying them. It turns out the spam was sent by a local guy they hired to update their website. I guess he was doing some other shady shit on their server. Naturally they canned him. icon_lol.gif

People who visit religious websites are also more significantly unintelligent and devolved than people who visit porn sites. So they are less likely to notice the virus, and to buy useless pop up ad crap.

LOL yeah... righteous religious fanatics think in terms of fear, sins, and guilt from pleasures. Where porn lovers are just satisfying their rightful needs. The god concept is where human evolution went so wrong. First they teach "go forth and multiply" ... hello population explosion! ... then they condemn the homos for going against god's will, etc...
