1. I do not think Obama is using his newly evolved stance on gay marriage as a smokescreen to his birth certificate. He released two versions of his birth certificate.
2. Obama did use the "gay card" as a political strategy in two ways. More money and to counter Romney's response on gay marriage as "the same as the president's."
The extra effect of the second advantage to this strategy is now Romney is the only one out of the four major party nominees to actively seek to deny civil rights to a group with amending the constitution.
3. Chris Hayes is a less intelligent, less pretty version of Rachel Maddows. I love Rachel Maddows, but not the smirking goblin version.

The label "birther" is toxic only to the far left. My understanding is the Honolulu newspapers at the time, the Advertiser and the Star-Bulletin, both published announcements on Obama's birth. Therefore, I had assumed he was born in Hawaii, so I wouldn't be considered a birther. However I don't have negative attitudes towards birthers because Obama deliberately kept the birth certificate hidden, I think for political reasons to try and marginalize those who questioned his status. Even though many moderates do not question his birth certificate, I don't think they are as repelled by the notion of a birther as is the far left.
Although to me his birth certificate is legitimate, there is so much about his background that has been hidden, together with an attitude that IMO is not in the best interests of this country, that legitimate questions remain. I would like to see his college transcripts, papers, etc, and I think things may well emerge that his team has wanted to keep hidden.
