Let's hope this bill passes. "Reparative" therapy is trying to fix something that isn't broken. The mormon church tries to promote this, and we're all aware how "successful" they are with this. Ted Lieu (D-Torrance), sponsor of the bill said that "being gay, lesbian or bisexual is not a disease, disorder, illness or deficiency that requires repair." He went on to say that "reparative therapy is junk science that often leads to self-hatred, depression, or in some cases suicide."

"CALIFORNIA ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ADVANCES BILL TO PROTECT PATIENTS FROM EX-GAY THERAPY | After hearing testimony from victims of ex-gay therapy, California General Assembly’s Committee on Business, Professions And Consumer Protection voted 5-2 to endorse S.B. 1172, a bill to protect patients from the harmful “treatment.” State Sen. Ted Lieu, the bill’s sponsor, noted that “bans quackery and junk science in the form of reparative therapy.” The measure now heads to the full Assembly."

I don't know a whole lot about this but from what I do understand it seems absolutely wrong. If people voluntarily wish to have certain "treatment", as phony as it might be, they should be able to do so. This kind of thing only gives the so-called "gay agenda" a bad name, that we are out to suppress religious freedom.

It is not the first time the government has stopped procedures that cause harm. The food and drug administration does this on a regular basis.

Doing something as a medical professional is different than doing something as a religious leader. Religious people can still pray the gay away all they want.

The reason this should be made illegal is that it is FRAUD.
They are taking people's money under false claims that they can change their sexual orientation, which does not work.
These people are con artists, plain and simple. They should be treated like the criminals they are.
(Conservative hero Michelle Bachmann's husband is one of these swindlers -- only too happy to bill the federal government for his kooky anti-gay "cures.")

It is not absolutely wrong. It is the right thing to do. Ex-gay conversion therapy preys on those who have a lack of self confidence. By allowing it to be advertised essentially allows the message to be displayed that, if one does not like their sexual orientation they can work to change it. When, in actuality, the only thing a therapist should do with a gay man or woman who wants to change their sexuality is work with them to help them realize that they cant, and to love and accept themselves for who they are.

There is also another issue with ex-gay therapy. Minor children who come out to their parents can be sent to these camps (also known as straight camps) against their will as their parents have custody. This can cause long-term psychological damage to the child and ultimately risks their safety.

It needs to get shut down, thank God for California doing the right thing.

BTW, this doesn't "ban" ex-gay therapy; it just limits it to adults.

If you get your news from Fox, it's ALL about religious freedom, isn't it. Unless it's Muslim religious freedom. Boy, you really buy into the bullshit, don't you, believing the wholly manufactured outrage machine that pisses on your back and tells you it's rain. From outside the yellow spray, I can tell you, the view's a lot clearer.

    Ummm, no.

Somethings are patently evil and based on superstition, fallacy, and outright stupidity; such things should be prevented.

    This is one of them.

The thing is with bisexuals they will always find people to cure. because many bisexuals have given the impression that sexuality is a choice, and can be changed, as you have long standing married men, who one just become gay, so why can they not then be cured back to straight. It's us Bona Fide homosexuals and straights that can not be cured. wh;cm;oupu6[c89

It is awesome to see California take on these scandalous ex gay therapy phonies and ban their harmful practices. Now if only many other states would man up and consider such legislation. I would love to see New York seriously consider a similar type of law.
