I really wish they would focus on Florida. Our hate-consumed Governor will have a fit, but screw him. This would be one way to "rally the troops" to empty out the Florida House and Senate of narrow minded, NOM supporting Republicans, usher in great Democrats and poise ourselves to oust Rick Scott in 2014.

The problem with that is that the population of Florida is evenly split between ultra conservatives and the rest. Illinois is more of a blue state.

Well, we are "blue" as well....but barely. Once you venture outside of Chicago, Illinois is fairly conservative., while here you have the Tea Bag north, the mixed bag Central and liberal Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area.

Broward County went to the Repubs/Teabaggers in 2010, and the voters put that radical West into the US House, and Rubio in the Senate.

How? Other than Allen West (who is crashing and burning to defeat this year), what happened? Broward is rock-ribbed Democratic territory from what I have always known.

The incumbent Democratic Mayor of Broward County and the Democratic candidate for Mayor of Fort Lauderdale both lost. And our streets around Broward were literally blocked with Teabagger demonstrations, waving their "Don't Tread On Me" banners and American flags. And the voters bought it.

    Oh.....

And not to do a "home invasion" of the thread here.....I think Illinois will be a tough state for marriage equality as there are still some good 'ol Midwest Values running things. Could be close if it comes down to a decision by the people of the state.

Sometimes pursuing change through the courts is the way to go... because more likely than not, they'll cut through the crap of "separate but equal".

Certainly worked well for us up here in Canada, with protections for gays and lesbians "read in" to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms (one of the constitutional documents).

The real shame is that it is so damned *easy* to change a state constitution in the USA. It can all be done with a simple majority vote in a single referendum. icon_sad.gif

There are twice as many Republicans as Democrats now sitting in Florida's House of Representatives.

There are two and a half times as many Republicans as Democrats now sitting in Florida's Senate
