When people are flippant on this forum, are they really saying I need some attention? or I know better? or I'm better? I wish there is a "like" button and a "dislike" button.

Darwin was wrong. Some people still haven't evolved.

on a higher level, by observing the dynamics of one of "those" threads, one can actually learn a lot about the human psyche and its infinite variations. Some people just LOVE to fire back, and will often do so without fully reading or comprehending a post. For example, assuming someone is insulting you when they are actually insulting everyone else (which is, of course, massively entertaining).

No, I take it to mean: I have nothing of intelligence to add to the conversation, I really have nothing else going on in my life, and this site is the extent of my life.

Scary. To me, like and dislike buttons is about making an opinion based on majority

What's a straight jock forum would be then? even nastier? nastier humor? darker humor? or gay guys are better at "bitching"? What are some major differences? Any Kinsey 1 or Kinsey 2 guys here? ... and the "Ignore" button might as well be renamed: "Bitch, get lost".... nice, but not useful as "Like" or digg... as no other people see you hitting that button.

^change your RJ options to show 25 or 50 posts at a time instead of the whole thread.

I think the reason people are flippant on forums is that there is a lot of irritating stuff to put up with, and laughter goes down easier than anger.

We have people posting the same topic that has been seen 1000 times.
We have people writing in with fake problems asking for advice, and when given we find that it was a waste of our time.
We have the general lack of consideration that accompanies being anonymous on the Internet.
We have old topics being brought back after years by a new person who didn't check the date.
    We have fake pictures.
    We have draaamaaa.

To take every thread seriously after seeing the above 1000 times would display a concerning failure to react to external stimulus and poor coping skills.

Flippancy isn't the enemy, it's a normal response to an overwhelming amount of cynnicism fertilizer. (cynnicism is a plant so say I)

My browser never does that when clicking on that forum. Do you have your preferences set so only 25 posts appear per page or are they all displayed on one page?

Much the same, only with "no homo" written after they compliment your pecs or arms.

All of the above. The medium is the message. And, the screen is a mirror.
