“Kill them all. Right? I will be very honest with you. My flesh kind of likes that idea. But it grieves the Holy Spirit. It violates Scripture. It is wrong.”

"Homosexuality is wrong. Amen, preach it. We need to put them all in prisons and we ought to fence them in. The same judgment on sodomy, God says the same consequences for sodomites is the exact same thing that should be for adulterers."

All in league with the US political Right Wing. Endorse Republicans & Teabaggers, endorse this. They are one in the same, per the Karl Rove formula crafted for the 2004 election. Christian fundamentalists and the Republican Party are one. And Romney has formally signed onto it.

. Mark 16: 17-18 reads, "And these signs shall follow them that believe: In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues. They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."

    God's funny.

And with this video going viral- the media continues to "speculate" to the reasoning for young people killing themselves for being too scared to even talk to someone about the subject of GLBT topics... This makes me nauseated and want to organize a GLBT sit-in like a flash mob.

Everyone dress to impress then as he starts his sermon, slowly...one by one, people start to disrobe into FABULOUSLY colorful outfits! that may or may not say anything crass--that optional *wink*

Can someone make this happen? Just curious? icon_smile.gif

And as everyone knows, straight people never commit adultery or engage in sodomy (oral or anal sex) -- unless you count all of them. icon_rolleyes.gif

Keeping in mind that I recently started a thread wherein it'd be nice if people said, "I don't know" when they don't, I would like clarify something for this pastor, because I am about to speak with authority: Sodomy was not invented until the 11th century, and then it was only invented accidentally by way of a "typo."

In Mark D. Jordan's "The Invention of Sodomy in Christian Theology," Jordan notes that an unknown scribe was copying a text discussing the crime of "de sodomita" (of the Sodomite), which at that time was still not defined as anything beyond a convolution of luxuriating in idle pleasure and abuses of hospitality (i.e. having enough to share, and choosing not to share, despite someone else's need for a small portion of your own surplus). The crime of the Sodomite was of not being a good neighbor. The problem is that although the original text reads "de sodomita," the clerk in question wrote "de somodia."

Suddenly you are talking about the crime "of sodomy," not the crime "of the Sodomite." And if for a thousand years no one has specifically defined what the crime of the Sodomite is, then it is difficult to say specifically what sodomy must be. But even that typo didn't invent sodomy. The problem is that this typo got copied and dispersed.

It required another 150 years before Peter Damian seeks to define what the crime "de sodomia" is. According to Jordan, "That transition from acts to persons is perhaps what an essence does best. By coining an abstract term to group together a series of acts, Peter Damian has made the inference from acts to agent almost automatic. The acts display an essence, the essence of Sodomy. Where is that essence? Derivatively in the acts, fundamentally in the actor - the Sodomite who expresses his essence, his identity, by acting. The unity of the abstract essence, Sodomy, points back to the unity of the identity in Sodomites. They are no longer persons who perform a few similar acts from a myriad of motives and in incalculably different circumstances. They are Sodomites doing Sodomy. The abstractive power of the word abolishes motives and circumstances."

In other words Sodomites perform sodomy, because that's what Sodomites do. But what is it Sodomites do? They perform the sin of sodomy. And what is that? Well... it's... it's... ummmmmm... hmmmm. BUTT SEX! Yes, it's butt sex; which means that butt sex is sodomy, and sodomy is done by Sodomites.

And according to the psychological definition of "fetish" (sexual attraction to 'non-genital' stimulation), butt sex is a fetish...not a true sexual act.
Therefore, sodomy could also be defined as any sexually stimulating activity that does not involve genitalia. icon_wink.gif

This was the sin of Sodom. It had nothing to do with being homosexual, although there were probably some homosexuals living there, it wasn't being homosexual that caused Sodom's apparent destruction.

    Interesting read.

"Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom, pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy."

Let's see, rich affluent people that won't pay to strengthen the poor and needy among them....or use any of their idle time to assist them.

This is incredibly true. The destruction Sodom and Gomorrah had more to do with the people being incredibly out of control than it did with homosexuals living in the city. Back then - I believe - homosexuality was so misunderstood the religious leaders of that time threw out the entire idea of it without observation or any questions. Unfortunately it made it's way into the oldest books in our history. I am a Christian but, I totally disagree that being gay and being and active homosexual is a sin. I won't allow my mind to accept, nor process, that bit of information.

Christianity has killed more people than Nazism...because people like this idiot pastor had the political power to run a society by the code of some old worthless book. As first they admit killing is wrong, but eventually find a way to justify doing it. See Crusades, Salem witch burnings, Inquisition, etc.

Religion has always been used by the ultra wealthy to control people. Its no wonder the Republican party wants to steer us back to the time of religious terror.

Do you think the Republican party is conservative? I think they're about rigging the game for a few, such as Carlyle Group or Halliburton. The whole religion thing is to attract masses of stupid people to vote against their own economic interests.

Even George H W Bush said, "Reagan is a conservative. An extreme conservative. All the blockheads and dummies are for him."

Any "pastor" who preaches such things should be removed from his post - it is deeply anti- and un-Christian to fan hatred and division.

But don't forget the many pastors who have fought on our side; they have made a difference, and continue to do so.

    would be who exactly?

Other than the gay ones who have come out and continued to preach, it seems a few pastors have expressed some mild tolerance toward our cause.

Yes, pastors have been removed from their posts....but mostly for not being hateful enough.

For centuries, Christianity taught people to hate homosexuality as the abomination the bible says that it is. Yes, its led to untold deaths, hate crimes, suffering...but the bible is full of that. Anti-gay evangelical mega churches have the highest membership and growth rates. And the reason is they use the bible. Visit there on a Sunday, and the members all walk in carrying a bible.

Christianity cannot exist without the bible. Get away from the bible and what do you have? Just a bunch of BS and a collection plate. Its why they're 2% of Christianity.

Well, for starters, quite a few Episcopal churches and priests. Our (straight) rector asked me to start our annual Matthew Shepard sermon, and when we chose a new rector the vestry passed a unanimous vote that sexual orientation would not be an issue - other than that the new priest had to be prepared to perform same-sex marriages and that was an absolute requirement. Our new rector lead us in the last two Pride parades, in support of same-sex marriage, our bishop was a strong supporter, and quite a few other churches marched along.

We were the first church on the west coast to perform inter-racial marriages, and we feed around 3,000 people a week.

Don't lump all churches or all Christians into the same lump!

BTW - My particular parish is Trinity Episcopal, Seattle, where I am a two-term vestry member and lay preacher - and completely out.
