This website is being ruined by trolls! I can't even keep track of them anymore. Fake photos. Fake information and fake-ass threads popping up in plague numbers. I realize there are closeted guys who will leave the site, but why should we have to suffer because of a few closet cases? I really think RealJock should require verification at this point. If this troll infestation keeps up, we're going to start losing members. What do you guys think?

Does no good. The few people I do have on ignore get quoted constantly so I see their posts whether I like it or not. I've had Anduru on ignore for months but I can tell you everything that nasty cunt says.

    1. He (RJ owner) won't do it because it will decrease ad revenue.

    2. If people would ignore the trolls and stop responding to their topics, they would go away. I'm not even talking about the Ignore button. I'm talking about not responding to and bumping their topics. They come here because they get attention. It's the whole purpose of a troll.

I agree to an extend, but I think the problem is that many decent guys would join the site and only after they are enjoying themselves would they bother with verification.

If I was a new member and it made me verify myself from the get go, I might not have joined. Now you're stuck with me.

I wonder if there's a way to only view comments by verified posters?

Do I really look like I need to be verified? Or that I'd care? Though these are about the only two advantages I can think of for getting old.

When you can't ignore, or don't care to, you need to learn to avert your eyes. I'm very good at this but I've a lifetime of practice. You could have your most personal papers out in plain site in the house and unless you ask me to, I won't read them. It is none of my business. I've enough thoughts of my own to concern me.

Unless I feel like a distraction from something even worse, someone stirring shit online is none of my business. I don't respond to them. I don't open their threads. I'm not curious about them in the slightest. There are too many truly interesting people online to bother.

Or that verified users should be the only ones able to post in the forums section.

I honestly don't care, I'm just throwing random suggestions.

Or at least only verified members can be eligible for MOTD!

That's extremely valid, since you have to be verified to vote.
And I definitely agree with requiring verification to post in the forums.

Indeed. Fair is fair, isn't it?

Plus, it's pretty sad that some MOTD have been fakes, lol.

There are a handful of Verified members that troll the forums and create asinine topics for the sake of stirring things up. So I agree with theantijock, use the Ignore function. Requiring verification won't solve anything.

    However, active moderation will.

It's pretty easy. Either the site owners or forum members elect a few neutral RJ member as moderators. And all his moderation actions are displayed. Like if a comment was edited or deleted or whatever. I mean, this is all standard stuff in all of the popular commercial and open source forum software.

And just to be clear, moderation is not censorship. It's to ensure that everyone follows the rules. So it's mostly housekeeping stuff, like deleting spam, stopping harassment of other members, deleting fake profiles and puppet accounts, and so on.

I don't think it should be required, it's pretty easy to ignore the people who aren't verified if it's that big of a deal.

This topic AGAIN? It pops up at least once a year.....make it a PAY for membership site and the trolls will drop out.....that simple....otherwise use your discretion a lot more deliberately, use the ignore tool and vote smarter for MOTD.... icon_rolleyes.gif

I really think this is the answer. This way they would still get their ads seen just as much.

I think if you did make verification a requirement, a lot of people would go and not come back. Even if you did make it that they could view the forum and not post, they wouldn't do that. People love free stuff and they also love free stuff that requires nothing but a few keystrokes of lies and a couple of clicks.

Maybe the following might work for all:

Give unverified accounts a limited number of posts per. day - That way the guys who are closeted or shy or whatever can still ask their questions and get help or whatever while the trolls will have a limit to their trolling.

IP ban trolls/spammers so if they try to sign up again they can't with that same IP which means they'll need to connect somewhere else to troll rather than from their home cave.

Unverified accounts have like a week trial of limited posts per. day before only being able to view the forum unless they get verified.
