GOP Congressperson's official campaign spokesman: "Let's hurl acid at female Democrat Senators."

Another proud day for the Republicans:

On a Facebook discussion board, Republican congressional spokesperson Jay Townsend mockingly suggested throwing acid on female Senators who supported the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act but paid their male staffers more than their female staffers.

Townsend is the official campaign spokesman for Rep. Nan Hayworth’s (R-NY)

“Listen to Tom,” he wrote Saturday, in reply to another Facebook user who had criticized Republicans. “What a little bee he has in his bonnet. Buzz Buzz. My question today…when is Tommy boy going to weigh in on all the Lilly Ledbetter hypocrites who claim to be fighting the War on Women? Let’s hurl some acid at those female democratic Senators who won’t abide the mandates they want to impose on the private sector.”

Acid attacks have notoriously been used against women who violate social traditions in Syria, Afghanistan and other countries.

Becker campaign spokesman Barry Caro told Politicker that he would be immediately fired for writing something of that nature.

“This isn’t some obscure supporter or no-name right wing provocateur, and we’re not playing ‘six degrees of condemnation,’” he added. “This is Nan Hayworth’s official campaign spokesman saying some truly disturbing things on her behalf. The people of this district deserve to know whether Nan thinks what her spokesman is saying is ok – and if not, what she’s going to do about it.”

Encouraging violence against women is really sick.
But of course, this POS will "apologize" and say it was just "a joke."
Would any sane person think this is funny?
    Sickening.

No sane person would think he is funny.
No sane person would think he is actually suggesting anyone throw acid.
No sane person thinks he speaks for the republican party.
No sane person thinks his apology should be enough, he should be fired.

    I would disagree completely.
The best part of being an American is the choice we have to be active and involved. I know my congressman, I know a couple of others, I am friends with my parents congressman and we have dinner when I am visiting. I email and talk to candidates. I express my opinion. I donate time and money to candidates, causes and support with both my time and money people and community projects that are important to me. It is way too easy to become cynical and stand back and really not be involved. You would be shocked how many times I ask my gay friends if they have actually talked to any of their elected officials about gay marriage (few have) and you wonder why politicians are so brazen in their beliefs, because they do not hear from the people too lazy or cynical to actually stand up and demand to be heard.
No, way beyond this board I am completely involved in politics because I do think it is the way to get things accomplished. I hope sane people believe that to be true.

I'm surprised that Hayworth hasn't spoken out yet. It's been several hours now. Surely the Member of Congress would want to contain the damage with either Townsend's resignation or firing.

And has Townsend, who made these comments, actually been fired, or resigned?

Not always so inevitable. Republican US Senator Vitter from Louisiana merely ignored the fact that he was caught using a prostitution ring, despite being a family values guy, and he's still serving. And who could forget Senator "Wide Stance" Larry Craig, who first said he'd resign, then decided he had enough support from his fellow Republican US Senators to finish out his term. Hey, sexual morality only counts in Republicanland when it's the other guy who's doing something naughty.

Of course Townsend doesn't hold elective office, so he could be expendable, easy to throw under the buss to make his boss look good. Interesting to see how this plays out.

BTW, Alan, love your current Profile pic, that looks just like you. icon_wink.gif

Obviously the spokesperson should be fired immediately.
If that happens it will make it clear that Rep. Hayworth and the Repub party in general disagree with and won't tolerate Townsend's comments.

If this gets swept under the carpet and Townsend remains Hayworth's spokesperson - then it's fair to indict Hayworth and her fellow Repubs.

Let's wait and see whether or not Hayworth and the Repubs do the right thing.

Not so unlike during the capitol protests about the reforms in my state here last year when a Dem Senator told a republican congress woman "your dead!" or when during a tea party rally and a 14yo girl was singing the national anthem, the unionistas were booing her and calling her a cunt and a whore.

Many proud days for the compassionate, caring liberals since then

google it yourself, its not fiction, I was there and almost punched the asshole right in the face at the rally:

Wi dem threatens female rep. after assembly vote: "you are fucking dead"

His name is Gordon Hinz, her name is Michelle Litjens

As far as other one google wis union supporters boo tea party during national anthem and leftist protesters boo during national anthem at Madison tea party.

I am sure you can check it out if you want but i figure its just fiction to you
