I am going to buy a console tomorrow. Over the past week my brothers have really gotten me into FPS games, mainly MW3. I want to get one to have to myself. I hate that you have to pay for the XBOX online network but they both have one and want me to get one. What do you guys think?

U.S. video game console installed base as of May 15, 2012:

    Xbox 360: 34.2 million

    PS3: 21 million

Now consider the exclusive titles available on each. Are you more into Halo than LittleBigPlanet? Do you prefer a larger library of titles?

If you've answered yes to both of these questions, you're a 360 man.

Are you telling me you guys don't own both?

If it makes any difference, 360 is closer to the end of it's development cycle than PS3.

    XBOX 360.

PS3 is a dead end console. Graphics are the same as XBOX, its network service sucks compared to XBOX Live although is free and there is no Kinect but a pathetic copy of a wii-mote. The interface is also ugly as hell.

These topics always get such ridiculously passionate responses. icon_rolleyes.gif

Both consoles have advantages. XBOX360 has a better online experience, but you pay for it. PS3 has better graphics and a blu-ray player for better entertainment options beyond gaming. As someone already mentioned, check out the exclusive titles of each console. XBOX360 has a better motion controller than PS3's. There are sites like CNET who do reviews as well. Check those out. Most of all, enjoy it! You can't really go wrong with either console.

I have both and my preference is XB360. My main question to you would be whether you own a Blu-ray player. IMO, if you don't, then get a PS3 just for that capability. The other advantage of PS3 is that you don't have to purchase a subscription to play online games as you do with the XB360.

If you don't care about the BD player and you don't play games online then go with XB360.

I also work in the video game biz if that means anything.

Since you're into FPS go with 360. If you were into any other type of games I would say PS3.

Better graphics potential does not equal better graphics. Not a single third party out there actually cares about PS3 extra hidden power, as a result games on PS3 and XBOX look nearly identical in some cases even better on XBOX. So no PS3 does not have better graphics.

You took what I said out of context. I said better graphics for "beyond gaming." In other words, PS3 has a blu-ray drive and 1080p graphics for a better movie watching experience if the OP wants to use his console for that. It also has 3D movie capability, but I don't know if it supports the best 3D video that is currently available.

I love my PS3. IMO it also crashes less, my brother has gone through 3 360's in the time I have had my 1 PS3.

Tricky advise, although having a Blu-Ray available is always good you're still buying a GAME console not a home theater system. Considering that you can always get BR player either stand alone or integrated on the stereo system I wouldn't choose a game console based on technology that does very little for the game experience itself.

You said "if you don't play online games then go XBOX360". Bro....WTF?
XBOX live is payed but you get s lot more than what's on PSN, better party game options, better apps, better stability, better security(PSN went down for over 2 weeks and a chunck of the database with user info was stolen by hackers). If you are SERIOUS about online gaming by all means pay the $50 a YEAR, XBOX live is worth, totally worth it.

So what you meant was better resolution for movies not better graphics, movies playback differs from processing polygons, shading etc on the fly within a video game.

Yes you do get a Blu-Ray player, which you can get anywhere else really so I personally wouldn't base my decision on a feature that does not directly impact the gaming experience.

360, if you use online at all. Although the PS3 has free online, it is also unsupported, insecure, and unreliable. Xbox Live is very affordable and fully supported.
