Sorry that I have no specific knowledge to help, but I amunder the impression that it is dangerous to be openly gay in that part of the world. Maybe this is a time to observe rather than participate. We must have someone here who knows, but be careful and come home safe.

They have a weird, gummy ice cream that vendors give you by putting on a show.

I see a lot of American porn sites that parade Turkish gay guys which tells me that Americans control Turkish culture and American Christian religion probably also rules there which means, you will probably have a hard time finding gay sex among the Turkish guys (although in their pre-American past such sex may have been free and easy to find but as soon as American females, and the general public found out about that, it was probably brought to a halt because too many American men were going there for that, lol). But that's just my ignorant opinion as an observer of American history, culture, and true hidden attitudes towards sex, lol.

You learned all this about Turkish culture from watching porn, huh? I need to watch more porn because I had no idea Americans controlled Turkish culture and American Christian religion ruled there.

ummm first of all, araphael that is such a stupid post I can't even... icon_rolleyes.gif
OP, I have a friend who moved to Kuwait City a few years ago and he's since returned - he told me of the terrible dust/sand so I can understand why you would hate it.
As for Turkey - my family owns a villa in Antalya province... although I don't think a vacation town would give me the same insight as living in Istanbul. I do know that the gay men I have met are all closeted and seem to have issues with coming out. Not sure what other info you're looking for but send me a message and I can pass along what I know.

I am turkish and live in istanbul. Turkish is my native language. The first thing i should tell you is that turkish culture is extremely homophobic and macho. %99 of turkish people are muslim. And most of them thinks homosexuality is a mental disorder and gays burn in hell (because sodom and gomore) Many gay and transgender people face beatings, harrasment and threat of murder. But larger cities like İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir is slighlty more open to homosexuality than the rest of Turkey. Though I can't say istanbul is a very gay friendly city. Younger generation is more accepted than older people. Taksim is a center of gay life in İstanbul. There are a few gay clubs. Also Bebek, Nisentasi, Levent in İstanbul is more open about sexuality. I said "sexuality". Because not only homosexuality but also sexuality is a taboo in most of turkey. Especially in eastern turkey which is the most conservative part of turkey, many women are killed by their own family because they lose to their virginity before marriage. By the way, gay public display of affection is frowned upon. Even in taksim, you can't see two men hold hands or kiss. If you do that, you would probably get disgusted looks maybe harrasment.

I did not enjoy my time in Kuwait so I understand why you would want to get out. I was driving along an unlit street one night near Al Wafrah and I almost hit a fuckin camel that ran across the road. Scared the shit out of me.
