.... and not surprisingly their readers remain some of the least informed and most gullible.
According to the county bureau of elections, Steve Smith, 42, was elected to the Republican committee with one write-in vote from the April 24 primary election. Mr. Smith is the regional coordinator of Keystone United, which was known until 2009 as the Keystone State Skinheads.
Mr. Smith announced his election to the GOP committee on an Internet forum called White News Now. He posted a photo of his election certificate, which includes signatures from the five members of the county board of elections.
The committee elects two members from each of the 189 voting precincts in the county. Mr. Smith and George C. Carmean, who received two write-in votes, were elected from Pittston's 4th Ward. No one was named on the ballot as a candidate from that ward.
Efforts to reach Mr. Smith were unsuccessful. A woman left a phone message asking a reporter not to go to Mr. Smith's home again.
The county Republican committee has six districts. A 3rd District chairman will be selected at the 3th District convention at 8 p.m. Monday at Bar on Oak Street in Pittston Twp.
"You see some people at the convention, and then you never hear from them again," Mr. Kolankoski said, adding neither he nor anyone he knows knows Mr. Smith.
The county convention has not yet been scheduled but will be after the 4th District convention on June 12.
