I have no problems defriending people off my facebook. I just deleted this 50-something year old woman who hangs out with her daughters 20-something year old friends.. icon_rolleyes.gif

anyway, one of the daughter's friends posted a pic of her 5 year old child and some perv commented that the child was a "TILF".....im assuming that means toddler I'd like to fuck???

well, the 50-something year old mother "LOL'd" at the "TILF" comment and I was appalled, so I deleted her fuckin ass.....

I'm not gonna get into it with her, but why the fuck would she "LOL" at a child being called a "TILF"?
So, this morning I get a message from her asking why we're no longer friends...
wow, bitch, you're all over that... but im not about to explain my reasoning. The deed has been done. You disgusted me. That's it.

People that say the wrong comments on facebook will be defreidned. I have no hesitation in doing so. . if you annoy me, you will be defriended.

I also utilize the "hide" feature quite generously as well, people that post Jesus-freaky shit are hidden-- or people requesting help in a game they're playing, defriend, no thanks.

well, your opinion is truly valued and appreciated. In fact, in an effort to be less of a drama queen, I'll go ahead and re-friend that woman.

    Thanks!

That's pretty much the proper way to handle it, Import. Kudos to you for not flying off the handle. We shouldn't waste our valuable time on people like that in my opinion.

Im not a big facebooker. I use it mainly for events and to "follow" a few friends. The people who post what they are eating for dinner, etc. I just delete.

Ahh...the biggest impact that Facebook has had on society: Loosening up the definition of the word "friend". I have about 70+ "contacts" on my friend list but i would only consider 5 or so of them actual "friends".

I deactivated this shit last week, but due to logging in to spotify it has automatically been reactivated. I'm fairly strict with managing my own personal information and often defriend others. The amount of bullshit posted on there sometimes gets on my nerves, but I can edit that as well. I should take the time to do that. I plan to visit it less frequently, because I somehow ended up checking it on a daily basis. I should cut the time spent on internet in general, but seeing as everyone is constantly on the internet, there's not much to do outside anymore. Pretty sad actually. However I do occasionally take trips on my own or go to some shows and meet up with friends (mostly in the evening though). I don't need anyone else to do things. That's one of the advantages of being an introvert, I guess.

When the weather is nice I always try to go out, except now due to a recently developed Diablo 3 addiction.

you should tell her. i know you could care less about improving her. but by her knowing hopefully she won't repeat her behavior...or worse someone mimics her behavior and perpetuates it. it's not like you're going to lose a friend. all upside, no downside by you telling her. on the other hand, you could come off as judgmental in her eyes.....

I would be interested in reading some research papers about the psychological effects of facebook and the whole 'sharing' thing. Someone made an interesting comment recently about this. We share information constantly with each other and that would make us less happy, because we constantly compare ourselves to someone else. I don't remember the source, but thought it was interesting.

Not the life of a loser. Just the life of somebody who judiciously chooses their social media "friends".

I've got just under 250 "friends" on FB. Most of those people are from high school and are not close "friends". A couple of dozen are people whom I would hang out with In Real Life. I don't "friend" anybody from my business life. And, in only one instance have I friended somebody from RJ.

Also, other than RealJock, the social media under my legal name is squeaky clean. I don't post the raucus, depraved, off-the-wall comments like I do here on RJ...although you can certainly find my posts on Google (which irks me).

You should ask her if she even knew what TILF means. Chances are, at her age, she probably has no true idea what it meant.

The only person I've unfriended was someone who was trying to push people to sign a petition in the state of WA that was against gay marriage. I never realized his point of view on gays/gay marriage before, as he, to me, always seemed like he would be gay friendly. Clearly, I was wrong.

Could this be the article you are referring to? Very interesting read.

A 50 year old woman who cares THAT much about who friends list is the one who needs to get a life.

I'd have done the same thing you did, including not replying to her asking why she isn't your friend any longer.

I can't believe people take social networking sites so seriously. I only defriended once. I was friended 3 years ago by good acquaintances of mine I'd known for almost 20 years and during a major life crisis which they knew about that I hadn't posted on Facebook I never heard from them, nary a supportive, on-the-fence email. After six months of this I sent them a nice email and Facebook defriended them. The defriending turned out to be more important to them than anything else, almost a heinous act. Crazy.

+1, I was going to say.. she probably thought "oh what a cute word! Who's my little Tilfie!" Ask first, then react.
