I remember the conservaposse here praising the Citizens United decision, because it also let unions contribute to candidates, just as corporations can, keeping the playing field level. Of course we all knew what a charade that was, with spending by corporate America far outstripping any unions.

But here we have an example where a union is punished for making an endorsement favorable to gays, also legal for it to do under the law. And this governor also punishes the union for past campaign contributions.

Unfortunately, the governor has a long history of opposing equal rights. In 2010, he claimed that “there is no place for transgendered students in the state’s primary schools” and that the Maine Human Rights Act, which prohibits discrimination because of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, age, physical or mental disability, needed to be reformed.

Sounds like a teacher's strike isn't too far off.

One of two new threads just this evening about the anti-gay ways of Republicans and just more of the long list of anti-gay decisions and rhetoric coming out this party. If you are looking for equality, don't go looking for it with the GOP.

Yet you guys overlook the wrongs the left have done to the gays of America too, after all was it not Free Willy Bill Clinton who gave you DADT! Obama has only said he supports gay unions only because an election is coming around, why did he not make that statement 3 years ago? But since he said what you wanted to hear you so foolishly believed him, for your own selfish wants. How about putting country before self for once. I can just see you guys wearing brown shirts and being thugs to help put a guy called Adolf Hitler in power, just because he promised you advancement once he got in.

Oh and Obama still believes America is one nation under God tooicon_eek.gif Thus there can be no such thing as gay marriage.

Before DADT gays could not serve in the US military at all. Bill Clinton wanted gays to be able to serve openly. DADT was a compromise dreamed up by a Republican, Colin Powell.

Democrats are far superior on gay equality than Republicans are. This is irrefutable. For example, the Democratic President believes gays should able to marry. The Republican nominee is a former anti-gay bully who does not believe gays should marry and who wants to write hatred of gay couples into the Constitution with a federal ban of marriage equality. These are facts.

Those who have no clue what they're talking about should refrain from commenting on American politics, past and present.

Put a sock in it, tru blu auzzie, Obama has evolved in the issue of gay marriage in much the same way as the republican state senator in my district, Mark Grisanti evolved and kept an open mind on the issue of gay marriage here in New York. Four or five years ago, gay marriage was still not a "politically safe issue" to support but now the tide has rapidly turned.

I love the way propagandist have turned Obama's massive flip flop on Gay Marriage into evolving; what a bloody pisser. No an election is coming around, and just as he used Gay and Bi's leading into the last elections, to buy your votes he is doing the same agin; and how many of you blindly fall for it!

Obama does not give a rats arse for Gay Americans, just as Hitler never gave a rats arse about the advancement of Germany's homosexuals, he just knew if he said the right things they would fight for him like the thugs they did, to put him in power with a false promise of advancement, then on the Night of the Long Knives, the truth come out, and the dream for advancement was over.

Wow Godwin in 6 posts, way to go blu!

I'm glad there are rare moderate Republicans in office that vote against this kind of crap. Sadly they are usually rooted out in the next election cycle because the party as a whole is indebted to the religious right and continues to suck their taints. I wish it weren't so, but this is yet another example of it.
