Is "Ginger" a term a straight guy would use?

Just curious. I was at a sports store not too long ago and this sales guy was being very helpful to me. He was a young, stocky, red-headed guy. Pretty attractive I guess but I hadn't really noticed because I just thought he was, without question, very straight.

To me the guy was built like a not overly tall football player, but he started talking about how large my arms were compared to his. Then he told me to make sure to come back in and let him know how the product I was buying worked out. He ended with, "You can't miss me. I'm the ginger around here". It just struck me as odd.

So this is a round about way of asking is he gay.

Well let me just tell you that YES straight men use the term ginger quite often.

Edit: Especially in Boston. "Ging" is the shorthand version.

There was an entire South Park episode about gingers. So I'd say it's a term that's pretty well known and used by the general public. icon_biggrin.gif

Ginger and GB (Ginger Bush) were terms usually used by Straight Dudes to describe Chix. WE kinda took it over.

It's still odd to me hearing "Ginger". It's always been carrot-top or red-head or fire-head. I've only heard "Ginger" from women or gay men. But good to know.

And, about the arm comments, who knows what his intentions were. It was kind of out of left field when he brought it up. But guys (straight and gay) tend to do that alot with each other.

    Totally.

In the UK Prince Harry is referred to as 'Ginge' all the time by gays, str8's, bi's etc etc

Ginger Minger is also quite common as a derogatory term icon_lol.gif

Sure. I use it teasing a couple of guys who work at the gym ... very straight if that matters. They love getting teased. If no teasing that means something is wrong. We all tease the crap out of each other. It's the midwest way!

    Ginger or fire-crotch seems appropriate.
