My first boyfriend: On the night I knew he was coming home after a long trip, I dimmed the lights and lined the floor with lit votive candles, from the front door to the bedroom...where I lay in waiting.

No, the apartment didn't catch fire, but I was half-scared it would. icon_razz.gif

My second relationship: I found a really secluded field north of Dallas and drove him out there when it was pitch dark. I drove out into the field, parked the car, turned off the lights, turned up the stereo, and played our favorite song while we danced under the stars. Afterwards I pulled out the picnic supplies, including a candelabra for lighting, chilled champagne, and the works.

Two months later he showed up at my apartment unexpectedly and I caught him shooting a line of cocaine in my bathroom. That's all she wrote...

Well, it's not like it cost me anything. But yes, I did learn to spend less of an effort. Carverhouse's gesture was much more simple and probably just as enjoyable.

I made him a video of me taking a shower while talking and singing to him. Man, did THAT backfire!!! icon_eek.gif

I thought my spin on "Gonna Wash That Man Right IN To My Hair" was pretty clever. Sheeeesh! Talk about a tough crowd!

Former bf; We were out with friends one night laughing and having a good time. He said he needed to get something from the car and would I go with him, so of course I did. When we got out to the car I said what did you need out of it. He looked at me and said, "I just wanted to have a moment with you alone under the moonlight." He kissed me, we hugged and went back inside.........

Well, it was nothing I had planned on, and it's nothing big, but it's something that made me feel really good.

My ex was a big scaredy-cat when it comes to storms and I was living in Texas and the storms are really bad and scary! Well, one night I stayed the night with him and it was raining really hard and the wind was so strong, and the thunder was setting off car alarms.

Needless to say he was really scared and his heart was beating pretty fast. I just pulled him into my arms, held him tight and kissed him on his cheek and told him everything will be fine. I could feel him relax because he was so tense. I just rubbed his chest for a while and within minutes he was asleep. I stayed up for about 10 min just watching him sleep. It felt so amazing knowing that he found comfort in me.

Well, right this very moment I'm June-freakin-Clever! Jonathan was away all weekend visiting his sister. His flight out was delayed and his flight home was cancelled. He's had a rough, rough trip.

Should be home in a hour. I've got his favorite dinner in the oven. His favorite cookies for dessert (homemade of course). The house is clean (amazing in of itself if you knew us) and the table is set with good china and a nice bottle of wine.

And I'm not wearing any underwear. icon_wink.gif

I dated a guy who mentioned something about that Jennifer Lopez movie where they dance in the park. The next week we were driving through Griffith Park and I pulled off into a small parking area, put the top down, and put on some Diana Krall. We danced under the stars like the movie.

Took one former bf on a ski trip to Park City, UT Got him a new set of Rossignol skis, boots, bindings. Had a great week of skiing together.

Took another one to the Biltmore in Santa Barbara for a weekend. I love Montecito - one of my favorite places relatively close by.

Flew to Cote d' Azur with one bf and rented a small villa overlooking the Mediterranean. It was his birthday.

All good memories - and most of them did a lot of cool things for me too.

Reading all this I feel terribly unromantic. Maybe I should take some hints.

The most romantic thing my bf did for me: he asked me to marry him while we were on the dancefloor at a New Years Eve party. I knew he thought the whole gay marriage thing was stupid, but he knew I wanted it. We went on to have an enormous wedding

I'm with thisguy023 (above), I asked my partner to marry me in Nice, down on one knee etc. I didn't need to get hitched to have a commitment, but knew he did, and it meant the world to him.

I personally don't think these big romantic gestures are what really counts. I have had the most romantic times just being with someone I loved and doing something really ordinary, like food shopping, or walking in a park.

I once had a ribbon around my "package" and the rest of me with a helium balloon attached. It was his birthday gift - hehe. This was for a guy i had been dating a couple of years.

I wrote him a song and sang it to him on one birthday too.

For one of my first loves, I wrote a plaintiff song recorded it and played it for him
to let him know how I felt and to ask him to move in with me.

Three years ago after a 2 and 1/2 year romance, my BF said he was leaving me, I wrote a poem for him, played "The Reason" by Hoobastank and gave him a copy of the lyrics to read while I was on bended knee with flowers asking him to reconsider.
